About Us
Long Street Backpackers is one of Cape Town's most iconic and characterful hostels, located in the heart of the city. We're a vibrant, social property that prides itself on delivering exceptional guest experiences — and that starts with a clean, well-presented, and welcoming space. We're looking for a reliable, detail-oriented Housekeeper to join our team and help us maintain that standard every single day.
THE ROLE
As a Housekeeper at Long Street Backpackers, you'll be responsible for the cleanliness and presentation of our guest rooms, dormitories, bathrooms, kitchen, common areas, and bar. You'll work closely with the Housekeeping Supervisor and play a direct role in the experience every guest has from the moment they walk through our doors.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Clean and prepare all guest rooms, dormitories, and common areas to company standard
- Make beds and ensure rooms are guest-ready before arrivals and after check-outs
- Clean bathrooms and restock toilet paper and hand soap each morning and before end of shift
- Clean the kitchen three times per shift (morning, after lunch, and before close)
- Maintain cleanliness of the bar, reception, TV room, balconies, and African Market as assigned
- Hand all lost-and-found items to reception promptly — nothing to be retained
- Report any damaged or broken items to the Housekeeping Supervisor
- Engage warmly and professionally with guests at all times
WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR
- Reliable and punctual — 07:30 is shift start, not arrival time
- Thorough and detail-oriented with a genuine pride in cleanliness
- Able to follow systematic cleaning procedures consistently
- Respectful and professional in interactions with guests and colleagues
- Previous housekeeping or hospitality experience is advantageous but not essential
- Must be available to work weekends and public holidays
