HPCSA-Registered Counsellor (Freelance / Sessional)

Psych Industries is a premium mental health and corporate wellness consultancy. We bridge the gap between mental health and the working world, partnering with individuals and organisations across South Africa. We are growing our national network of registered counsellors to support an expanding portfolio of client work, including student wellness across tertiary campuses.

We are looking for warm, professional, HPCSA-registered counsellors to provide evidence-based support to clients on a flexible, project-based basis.

About the work

This is freelance, sessional work, not full-time employment. Counsellors are selected for specific projects based on scope of practice, expertise, availability, and location. Some projects are once-off; others run over a longer fixed period. There may be quiet stretches between projects, but the work is varied, purposeful, and designed to complement an existing practice or career.

What you will do

• Provide individual counselling sessions to clients, virtually or in person
• Support client wellbeing as part of additional clients, projects, or campus partnerships, including overflow counselling capacity
• Work within your scope of practice, with clear referral pathways for anything beyond it
• Keep professional progress notes in line with HPCSA requirements
• Uphold the highest ethical and confidentiality standards at all times

What you need

• Current HPCSA registration as a Registered Counsellor (registration number required)
• A relevant qualification in psychology or counselling
• Professional indemnity cover, or willingness to arrange it
• A warm, professional, client-centred approach
• The ability to manage your own tax affairs as an independent contractor

Where we need you

We are building coverage near client base, so location matters for in-person work. We are especially keen to hear from counsellors in or near Johannesburg, Pretoria, Cape Town, Durban, Pietermaritzburg, and Gqeberha. Counsellors available for virtual-only sessions anywhere in South Africa are also welcome.

Rate

Session rates are set per project and aligned with current market standards. Our standard counselling session rate is R500 per 50 minute session, with in-person and travel arrangements discussed per project.
