Job Title: HR & Industrial Relations Manager (Private Security Sector)

About the Role:

Grinnell is seeking a resilient, commercially-minded, and highly experienced HR & Industrial Relations Manager to oversee our complete Human Resources and Labour Relations function.

The security industry is fast-paced, high-volume, and operationally demanding. You will be responsible for managing everything from high-volume recruitment and PSIRA compliance to chairing disciplinary hearings, handling CCMA matters, and maintaining workforce stability across our security and cleaning operations.

Key Responsibilities:

Industrial Relations & CCMA: Represent Grinnell at the CCMA and NBCPSS for conciliations and arbitrations. Manage all disciplinary processes, chair hearings, issue warnings, and handle desertion/abscondment procedures.
Union Management: Act as the primary liaison for trade unions, managing shop stewards, grievances, and collective bargaining agreements.
Compliance & Statutory Requirements: Ensure strict adherence to PSIRA regulations, NBCPSS Main Agreements, BCEA, LRA, and COIDA.
High-Volume Recruitment & Vetting: Drive continuous recruitment drives for Grade A–C guards, supervisors, and cleaning staff. Conduct stringent background checks, PSIRA vetting, criminal checks, and reference checks.
Onboarding & Induction: Lead site-ready inductions, contract sign-offs, uniform issuing, and code of conduct training.
Staffing & Operational Alignment: Work closely with Operations and Area Managers to manage guard placements, client removal requests, shift transfers, and absenteeism.
HR Administration & Provident Fund: Oversee HR admin, maintain employee files, process PSSPF documentation, and resolve payroll queries related to allowances and hours worked.

Requirements & Qualifications:

Education: Diploma or Degree in Human Resources Management, Industrial Relations, or Labour Law.
Experience: Minimum 3–5 years of HR/IR Manager experience specifically within the South African Private Security Industry (non-negotiable).
Legal Knowledge: Expert, up-to-date knowledge of SA Labour Law (LRA, BCEA), NBCPSS Main Agreement, and PSIRA legislation.
CCMA Experience: Proven track record of preparing and representing cases at the CCMA / NBCPSS.
Licensing & Transport: Valid South African Driver’s License and own reliable vehicle (essential for site visits and CCMA appearances).
Personality: Exceptionally strong conflict-resolution skills, assertive demeanor, thick-skinned, and highly organized.
