Job description
Qualifications & Experience
- Matric certificate or equivalent.
- COMSOC 1 & 2 or SAMTRAC with five years’ experience; or
- A diploma/degree with three years’ experience.
Advantageous
- Intermediate competence in MS Office: Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Outlook.
- Legal Liability, Incident Investigation and HIRA certificates.
- Competency A: Opencast Mining.
- Proficiency in the legal requirements of the Mine Health and Safety Act No. 29 of 1996 and Regulations.

Job Specifications
- Draft, review and implement all Mandatory Codes of Practice.
- Report all site incidents, prepare required documentation and facilitate incident investigations as needed.
- Support the development of OHS policies and programmes and provide clear safety guidance.
- Conduct and implement risk assessments and enforce preventive measures.
- Conduct regular site and section inspections and record them according to the safety officer’s schedule.
- Maintain the electronic document system and ensure policies are available and displayed on site.
- Ensure compliance with PPE requirements and arrange PPE orders.
- Arrange morning meetings so daily tasks are performed safely.
- Ensure SHE Committee meetings are held.
- Draft and revise legal appointments, SOPs and SWPs.
- Maintain records of checklists, procedures, fitness medicals, training and daily safe declarations.
- Manage contractors and approve safety files.
- Participate in or complete authority inspections and reports, training, incident investigations and audits as required.
- Arrange and schedule all SHE-related on-site training.
- Report monthly on safety performance, including leading and lagging indicators, and ensure full implementation of the company Safety Improvement Plan.
