Job Description Purpose The HR Generalist role is comprehensive and operational in nature, encompassing the full employee lifecycle while providing support to both management and staff across a wide range of HR functions.
Key Responsibilities
- Execute HR action plans aligned with overall people strategy.
- Administer payroll-related remuneration and benefits and manage staff enquiries.
- Maintain and update job descriptions, job grading, employment contracts, and accurate employee records.
- Manage recruitment processes including advertising, shortlisting, interviewing, and onboarding.
- Facilitate offboarding and exit administration effectively.
- Provide employee relations support including discipline, grievance management, and advice on policies.
- Employer representation at CCMA.
- Compile accurate HR reports for management and statutory compliance.
- Partner with academic and administrative units to drive talent management, people development, and employee engagement initiatives.
- Provide coaching on performance management, conflict resolution, and change management.
- Facilitate culture development and continuous improvement activities through employee engagement metrics.
- Act as a trusted HR advisor, balancing business objectives with employee experience.
Skills And Competencies
- In-depth knowledge of South African labour laws and employment legislation.
- Strong organisational and administrative skills with meticulous attention to detail.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and HR information systems.
- Ability to work autonomously and collaboratively in a dynamic team environment.
- Strong problem-solving skills with a customer service mindset.
- Confident, independent thinker with empathy and professionalism
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Ability to maintain confidentiality
Qualifications and experience
- A bachelor’s degree in human resource management.
- Minimum 5 years operational HR experience, preferably in private higher education.
- Experience working with an HR information system.
- Experience in industrial relations and CCMA representation.
