Join Our Team

THE Pretoria Hotel is seeking a professional, organised, and people-focused Human Resources Officer to join our management team. The successful candidate will play a key role in supporting the hotel's human resources function by ensuring effective recruitment, employee relations, performance management, training and development, payroll support, and compliance with South African labour legislation.

This position is ideal for an HR professional who is passionate about developing people, fostering a positive workplace culture, and contributing to the success of a dynamic hospitality operation.

Key Responsibilities

Recruitment & Onboarding

  • Coordinate the recruitment and selection process, including advertising vacancies, shortlisting candidates, arranging interviews, and conducting reference checks. Facilitate employee onboarding and induction programmes. Prepare employment contracts, offer letters, and all employment-related documentation. Maintain accurate employee records and personnel files.

Employee Relations

  • Provide advice and support to managers and employees on HR policies and procedures. Assist with disciplinary processes, grievance procedures, poor performance management, and incapacity matters. Coordinate disciplinary hearings and maintain confidential HR documentation. Promote positive employee relations and assist in resolving workplace issues.

Performance Management & Training

  • Coordinate the hotel's performance management process. Identify training needs and coordinate internal and external training programmes. Maintain training records and monitor employee development plans. Support succession planning and talent development initiatives.

Payroll & HR Administration

  • Prepare and submit payroll input accurately and within deadlines. Monitor employee attendance, leave, overtime, and absenteeism records. Administer leave management and maintain HR information systems. Prepare monthly HR reports and employment statistics. Ensure compliance with record-keeping requirements.

Compliance & Labour Legislation

  • Ensure compliance with the Labour Relations Act, Basic Conditions of Employment Act, Employment Equity Act, Skills Development Act, and other applicable labour legislation. Coordinate Employment Equity initiatives and assist with statutory reporting. Support Workplace Skills Plan (WSP) and Annual Training Report (ATR) submissions. Assist with occupational health and safety initiatives in collaboration with management.

Employee Wellness & Culture

  • Promote employee engagement and wellbeing initiatives. Coordinate employee recognition programmes and staff events. Foster a positive workplace culture aligned with the hotel's values and service standards. Support management in driving employee satisfaction and retention.

Minimum Requirements

  • Diploma or Degree in Human Resources Management, Industrial Psychology, Labour Relations, or a related qualification. Minimum of 3–5 years' experience in a Human Resources role, preferably within the hospitality industry. Sound knowledge of South African labour legislation and HR best practices. Experience in recruitment, employee relations, performance management, and HR administration. Strong understanding of Employment Equity, Skills Development, and payroll processes. Computer literacy, including Microsoft Office and HR information systems. Excellent communication, organisational, and interpersonal skills. Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound judgement.
