Job description
An exceptional, urgent opportunity has become available for a qualified Industrial Electrician to join a well-established manufacturing team based in the Winelands District.
This role is ideal for a proactive, trade-tested professional who thrives in a heavy industrial production environment. You will focus on maximizing plant availability by executing critical electrical fault-finding, preventative maintenance, and breakdown repairs on specialized automation and heavy manufacturing machinery.
Key Responsibilities
- Electrical Maintenance: Execute planned preventative maintenance (PPM) schedules and respond swiftly to breakdowns across the factory to minimize production downtime
- Systems & Controls: Install, maintain, and troubleshoot three-phase systems, Motor Control Centres (MCCs), control circuits, distribution boards, and electrical panels
- Automation & Diagnostics: Perform fault-finding on PLC-controlled equipment, automated production machinery, Variable Speed Drives (VSDs), and soft starters
- Heavy Plant Machinery: Maintain, service, and repair heavy machinery
- Projects & Installations: Assist with new machine installations, continuous improvement projects, cable routing, and terminations using appropriate diagnostic testing instruments
- Safety & Compliance: Ensure absolute adherence to company policies, electrical codes of practice, and health and safety regulations (OHSA)
Minimum Requirements
Education: Qualified Electrician with a valid Red Seal Trade Test
Experience: 2 – 3 years’ post-trade experience working as an Electrician within a manufacturing or heavy industrial environment
Technical Knowledge: Strong capability to read and interpret complex electrical drawings and schematics. Proficient with VSDs, soft starters, and MCC panels
Compliance: Solid knowledge of electrical safety regulations and the Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA)
Flexibility: Ability and willingness to work shifts, overtime, and standby duties as dictated by production needs
Licensing: Valid driver’s license is highly advantageous
Preferred Skills & Competencies
Proven experience with PLC fault-finding (highly advantageous)
Expertise in three-phase electrical fault diagnostics and panel wiring
Ability to work effectively under pressure in a fast-paced, demanding production plant
Strong team player with a proactive attitude toward improving equipment reliability
