Intermediate IT Infrastructure Engineer | Financial Services
Location: Cape Town, Northern Suburbs
Salary: R500 000 - R600 000 CTC per annum
Are you an experienced IT Infrastructure Engineer who enjoys taking ownership of enterprise environments, solving complex technical challenges, and continuously improving infrastructure performance?
We're partnering with an innovative financial services organisation looking for an Intermediate IT Infrastructure Engineer to join a collaborative technology team. This is an exciting opportunity to work across cloud infrastructure, Microsoft technologies, networking, cybersecurity, and business-critical systems in a hands-on environment where your expertise will make a real impact.
What You'll Be Doing
As the Infrastructure Engineer, you'll be responsible for maintaining and enhancing the organisation's core technology environment, including:
Infrastructure & Cloud
- Manage and support cloud-hosted virtual servers and core infrastructure platforms
- Monitor system availability, performance, storage, and overall infrastructure health
- Perform server maintenance, patching, upgrades, and lifecycle management
- Drive continuous improvements to infrastructure resilience and performance
Networking & Connectivity
- Support secure network connectivity, VPN environments, firewalls, DNS, DHCP, routing, and switching
- Troubleshoot connectivity issues across users, servers, cloud services, and third-party platforms
- Maintain network documentation, infrastructure diagrams, and technical runbooks
Microsoft Technologies
- Administer Windows Server and Windows endpoint environments
- Manage Active Directory, Group Policy, user access, permissions, and onboarding/offboarding
- Support Microsoft 365 administration, licensing, and collaboration services
- Assist with endpoint security, device management, and compliance
Security, Backup & Monitoring
- Maintain secure infrastructure through identity management, MFA, endpoint protection, and security best practices
- Monitor backups, perform recovery testing, and support disaster recovery planning
- Investigate infrastructure incidents and implement preventative improvements
Business Systems & Vendor Management
- Support SQL Server infrastructure and business-critical reporting environments
- Coordinate with managed service providers and external technology partners
- Assist with email security, vendor escalations, and infrastructure-related projects
Documentation & Continuous Improvement
- Produce clear technical documentation, support procedures, and operational runbooks
- Participate in change management, maintenance planning, and infrastructure enhancement initiatives
- Recommend practical solutions that improve system reliability, security, and operational efficiency
What We're Looking For
- National Diploma or equivalent qualification in Information Technology, Computer Science, Information Systems, Network Engineering, or a related field
- 3–5 years' experience in IT infrastructure, systems administration, or network support
- Strong experience supporting Microsoft environments, including Windows Server, Windows 11, Active Directory, Microsoft 365, and Group Policy
- Solid understanding of networking fundamentals, including VPNs, firewalls, DNS, DHCP, TCP/IP, and routing
- Experience supporting cloud-hosted infrastructure and virtual environments
- Knowledge of infrastructure monitoring, backup solutions, and security best practices
- Excellent troubleshooting, documentation, and stakeholder communication skills
Bonus Skills
- Microsoft, networking, cloud, security, or ITIL certifications
- PowerShell scripting and automation
- Experience with SQL Server infrastructure and Power BI environments
- Exposure to email security platforms and cybersecurity controls
- Experience within financial services, fintech, or other regulated industries
