Job description

About us;

At Africology, we create conscious skincare and wellness experiences shaped by nature's intelligence and more than 20 years of craft. Our work is thoughtful, ethical and grounded in a strong sense of purpose. Every brand touchpoint, from packaging and retail environments to digital content and campaigns, should express the same care, clarity and integrity.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

KEY PERFORMANCE INDICATORS: but not limited to

CREATIVE CONCEPTS AND INTEGRATED DESIGN

· Interpret briefs, ask the right questions and translate brand, audience and commercial objectives into clear creative solutions.

· Develop original concepts, visual territories, moodboards, storyboards and campaign systems, rather than producing isolated assets without a unifying idea.

· Design across packaging, print, retail, social, e-commerce, email, presentations and campaign touchpoints while maintaining a coherent visual language.

· Present concepts and explain the reasoning behind typography, composition, imagery, hierarchy, colour and channel adaptation.

· Respond constructively to feedback, refine work with discipline and protect the quality and intention of the final output.

BRAND STEWARDSHIP AND CREATIVE OPERATIONS

· Apply and help evolve Africology brand guidelines, templates, master files and visual systems across departments and channels.

· Maintain an organised asset library with consistent folder structures, file naming, version control, approval status and archiving.

· Quality-control artwork for visual consistency, spelling, sizing, technical accuracy and correct use of approved brand assets.

Coordinate feedback and sign-off so that stakeholders are clear on status, actions, ownership and final approval.

Identify repeatable design tasks and improve templates, handovers, briefing standards and production workflows.

PACKAGING, DTP AND PRINT PRODUCTION

· Create, update and roll out product labels, packaging, catalogues, brochures, point-of-sale material, signage and other print collateral.

· Prepare accurate, print-ready artwork using correct dimensions, dielines, bleed, resolution, colour settings, fonts, linked assets and barcode placement.

· Work from approved product, regulatory and legal copy, flag inconsistencies early and maintain clear approval records. Final regulatory approval remains with the responsible stakeholder.

· Review supplier proofs, annotate changes and verify that production artwork meets the agreed brand and technical specifications before sign-off.

· Provide design specifications and technical input for supplier quotations, mock-ups, samples and production decisions.

DIGITAL, SOCIAL AND MOTION CONTENT

· Design platform-appropriate content for Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, websites, e-commerce, email campaigns and digital advertising.

· Adapt creative across formats and placements with attention to mobile-first legibility, safe zones, aspect ratios, file sizes, contrast and accessibility.

· Create simple motion graphics, reels, short-form video edits, animated assets and campaign cut-downs when required.

· Build reusable digital templates and modular campaign assets that allow faster versioning without weakening brand consistency.

· Prepare assets for platforms such as Shopify, Klaviyo, Meta and Google, while collaborating with marketing on copy, targeting and campaign set-up.

PHOTOGRAPHY, VIDEO AND CONTENT SUPPORT

· Contribute concepts, shot lists, styling references, props, compositions and art direction for product and lifestyle content.

· Capture simple in-house product or social content where appropriate, then retouch, colour-correct, crop and export assets to the required standard.

· Organise source footage and photography so that approved assets are easy to locate, reuse and adapt.

· Collaborate with specialist photographers, videographers, stylists or animators when a project requires deeper technical expertise.

AI-ENABLED CREATIVE PRACTICE

· Use approved AI-assisted tools selectively across research, ideation, moodboarding, prompt exploration, rough layouts, storyboards, generative fill, image extension, clean-up, retouching and first-pass variations.

· Apply AI to repetitive or production-heavy tasks such as resizing, batch versioning, asset tagging, transcription, first-cut editing, preflight checks and workflow automation where it improves speed and consistency.

· Decide when AI is appropriate and when traditional design, photography, illustration or specialist input will produce a better and more authentic result.

· Treat AI outputs as raw material. Refine, reject or rebuild outputs using human judgement, strong design fundamentals and brand sensitivity.

· Check all AI-assisted work for artefacts, product inaccuracies, spelling, anatomy, misleading content, bias, visual cliches and any conflict with approved claims or brand standards.

· Keep editable source files, document material AI use when relevant and retain provenance or Content Credentials where available.

· Do not upload confidential information, personal data, unreleased product information or protected brand material to unapproved AI tools.

· Share useful techniques with the team and recommend practical improvements to the creative workflow, without allowing automation to lower creative standards.

PROJECT COORDINATION AND COLLABORATION

· Plan and manage multiple design tasks through the agreed project-management process, with realistic timelines, clear priorities and visible status updates.

· Collaborate with marketing, retail, operations, sales, procurement, manufacturing and external suppliers to move work efficiently from brief to final delivery.

· Coordinate design handovers, proofs, feedback, approvals and production milestones, and raise risks or dependencies early.

· Support product launches, campaigns, retail activations, events and expos within the agreed creative scope.

· Communicate clearly, accept accountability for commitments and remain calm and solution-focused when deadlines or requirements change.

QUALIFICATION AND EXPERIENCE

QUALIFICATIONS:

· A diploma or degree in Graphic Design, Visual Communication, Multimedia Design or a related discipline is preferred.

· An exceptional portfolio and proven practical capability may be considered in place of a formal qualification.

EXPERIENCE:

· Approximately 1 to 5 years of relevant experience, which may include strong internships, freelance work, agency work or in-house brand experience.

· Candidates appointed toward the lower end of the range may work with closer creative direction and structured development.

· Candidates appointed toward the upper end of the range must be able to own projects independently, manage stakeholders and improve production workflows.

· Experience in skincare, wellness, beauty, retail, hospitality, consumer goods, packaging or multi-channel brand environments is advantageous.

CAPABILITIES, KEY SKILLS AND ATTRIBUTES

ESSENTIAL CAPABILITIES

· A portfolio that demonstrates original thinking, visual judgement, strong typography, composition, hierarchy and finished craft.

· Strong practical proficiency in Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop and InDesign.

· Ability to move from concept to final roll-out across both print and digital channels.

· Sound DTP, preflight, packaging and print-production knowledge.

· Working understanding of AI-assisted creative tools and the ability to explain how they improve a real design process.

· Disciplined file management, version control, proofing and deadline management.

· Clear written and verbal communication, including the ability to present work and motivate design decisions.

ADVANTAGEOUS CAPABILITIES

  • Premiere Pro, After Effects or equivalent motion and short-form video editing skills.
  • Product or lifestyle photography, retouching and basic art-direction experience.
  • Figma, Canva, Shopify, Klavi
