We’re Hiring: IT OBSERVABILITY ENGINEER | Information Technology
Are you an experienced observability and monitoring specialist with a passion for improving system visibility and operational performance?
Lesaka Merchant is looking for an IT OBSERVABILITY ENGINEER to join our Merchants Operations Division. This role is ideal for a technically strong professional who can design, implement and optimise observability platforms to enable rapid detection and resolution of system issues.
Job purpose
To design, implement and optimise observability platforms and practices, ensuring full visibility across systems through metrics, logs and traces, enabling rapid detection, diagnosis and resolution of issues.
Key Responsibility Areas
Observability Platform Engineering
- Implement and manage monitoring, logging and tracing platforms
- Configure observability tools (Datadog, Prometheus, Grafana, ELK, etc.)
- Ensure full telemetry coverage across systems
- Maintain dashboards and visualisations
- Integrate observability tools with infrastructure and applications
Alert Engineering & Signal Quality
- Define and tune alert thresholds and rules
- Reduce alert noise and false positives
- Implement alert correlation and prioritisation
- Ensure alerts are actionable and contextual
- Align alerts to runbooks and response processes
Monitoring Integration & Enablement
- Integrate observability into CI/CD pipelines
- Enable monitoring for new services and applications
- Collaborate with Cloud and SRE teams
- Ensure monitoring standards are followed
- Support onboarding of new systems
Incident Support & Root Cause Analysis
- Support incident detection and diagnosis
- Provide insights and data during incidents
- Analyse logs, metrics and traces
- Support root cause analysis
- Improve observability based on incidents
Observability Optimisation & Continuous Improvement
- Identify gaps in monitoring and telemetry
- Improve dashboards and reporting
- Optimise observability platform performance
- Support cost optimisation
- Drive observability best practices
Qualifications & Experience
- Diploma or Degree in Information Systems, IT or related field
- 3–6 years monitoring / DevOps / SRE experience
- Certifications / Advantageous
- Observability tool certifications
- Cloud certifications
