Specialist: Java Developer

We are looking for an experienced Java Developer to join a dynamic technology environment supporting complex, high-volume platforms within the telecommunications and ISP space.

The successful candidate will be responsible for building, maintaining and optimising end-to-end software solutions across the ISP lifecycle, including service provisioning, subscriber and customer management, product modelling and customer self-service platforms.

You will work within an Agile development team, building integration components between frontend applications, backend enterprise services, third-party network platforms and external APIs.

Key Responsibilities

* Develop, unit test and maintain Java-based features supporting service order provisioning, orchestration and activation.

* Build and maintain API integrations between customer portals, order management platforms, billing systems, OSS/BSS platforms and external network providers.

* Develop features supporting service assurance, operational monitoring, fault tracking and diagnostic workflows.

* Assist with the modernisation of legacy frontend applications by migrating jQuery-based components to modern frameworks such as React or Angular.

* Profile, debug, refactor and optimise Java backend code.

* Analyse and optimise relational database queries to improve application performance.

* Participate in peer code reviews and ensure adherence to development and architectural standards.

* Develop comprehensive unit and integration tests.

* Work closely with QA teams to resolve defects before deployment.

* Participate actively in Agile ceremonies including daily stand-ups, sprint planning, backlog grooming and estimation.

* Support software deployments, release cycles and technical troubleshooting when required.

Minimum Requirements

* Bachelor’s Degree or Diploma in Computer Science, Information Technology, Software Engineering or a related technical discipline, or equivalent relevant industry experience.

* Minimum 5+ years of professional hands-on software development experience.

* Strong practical Java application development experience, including debugging and code optimisation.

* Commercial experience using modern frontend technologies such as React, Angular or PrimeFaces.

* Experience working within containerised environments using Docker or Podman.

* Understanding of orchestration platforms such as Kubernetes or OpenShift.

* Strong understanding of RESTful APIs, JSON, OpenAPI/Swagger and SOAP services.

* Experience working with relational databases and writing optimised SQL queries.

* Familiarity with DevOps and CI/CD automation tooling.

Advantageous Experience

The following would be highly beneficial:

* Telecommunications industry experience.

* Understanding of OSS/BSS platforms and telecommunications environments.

* Experience working with high-availability or low-latency transactional systems.

* Experience with enterprise API gateways such as Red Hat 3scale.

* Enterprise integration platform experience.

* Experience migrating legacy jQuery applications to modern SPA frameworks.

* JBoss EAP or similar application server experience.
