Junior Accountant – Maternity Cover (Fixed-Term Contract)

We are seeking a motivated Junior Accountant to join our Mossel Bay practice on a fixed-term basis, covering a period of maternity leave. The role involves handling day-to-day accounting functions for a portfolio of clients, with exposure to tax and compliance work.

Contract Details:

• Fixed-term maternity cover contract of approximately 4 months, with the possibility of a short extension
• Anticipated start date: Mid August, with a handover period alongside the incumbent
• The contract will terminate upon the return of the permanent employee

Key Responsibilities:

• Full monthly accounting function up to trial balance
• Preparation of management accounts and financial reports
• Bank, creditor, and debtor reconciliations
• VAT, PAYE and IT calculations and submissions
• General ledger maintenance and journal processing
• Assistance with year-end financial statements and audits
• Payroll processing (where required)
• Client liaison and support

Requirements:

• Must be located in the Mossel Bay region
• Relevant accounting qualification (or studying towards one)
• Proven experience as a Financial Accountant or similar role — able to hit the ground running with minimal supervision
• Strong working knowledge of Xero accounting software
• Sound understanding of accounting principles and financial reporting
• Experience with VAT, PAYE, TAX and general compliance
• Strong attention to detail and ability to meet deadlines
• Good communication and organisational skills
• Available at short notice / immediately

Job Types: Full-time, Permanent

Pay: R7 000,00 - R9 000,00 per month
