Job description
About Payrollminds
Payrollminds is a fast-growing HR & Payroll Consultancy company headquartered in Amsterdam. We work with leading international organisations on complex payroll and HR initiatives, providing independent expertise across payroll advisory, implementation, transformation and staffing.
As our business continues to grow internationally, we are looking for a Junior Accountant to strengthen our finance team and support the accounting activities of our Dutch organisation and its international entities.
This is a hands-on role for someone who wants to develop their accounting career in an international environment and gradually take on more responsibility.
The Role
As Junior Accountant, you will support the day-to-day accounting activities and play an important role in the monthly and year-end closing processes. You will work closely with the Financial Controller and bookkeeping team and gain exposure to the accounting of entities.
You will gradually develop ownership of accounting processes, with the opportunity to take on broader responsibilities as your experience grows.
Your Responsibilities
Month-end close
- Support and increasingly take ownership of the monthly general ledger close.
- Prepare and post journal entries, accruals, prepayments and provisions.
- Ensure the general ledger is complete and reconciled before review.
Transactional accounting
- Review and control the work of the Creditors Clerk and Debtors Clerk/Bookkeeper.
- Support supplier and customer sub-ledgers, bank reconciliations and cash allocations.
- Investigate and resolve accounting queries and support the bookkeeping team where needed.
Balance sheet control
- Prepare monthly balance sheet reconciliations, including bank, intercompany, VAT, payroll, fixed assets and accruals/provisions.
- Follow up on and clear reconciling items in a timely manner.
Intercompany & group accounting
- Support the Financial Controller with intercompany transactions, eliminations and balance confirmations.
- Work with the Dutch parent company and its German and Polish subsidiaries.
Reporting
- Assist with monthly management reporting and variance analysis.
- Prepare supporting schedules for group reporting and forecasting.
Year-end & audit
- Support the Financial Controller during the year-end close.
- Prepare audit files, reconciliations, lead schedules and supporting documentation for external auditors.
VAT & statutory compliance
- Support the preparation of VAT returns and other routine statutory filings.
- Assist with year-end statutory accounts under the relevant local GAAP, working together with the Financial Controller and local advisors.
Cash flow, forecasting & budgeting
- Support the preparation of bi-monthly cash flow and forecasting.
- Assist with the annual budgeting process.
Processes & controls
- Help maintain and improve documented accounting procedures.
- Support the implementation of financial policies and ensure they are applied consistently in day-to-day activities.
Team support
- Act as a day-to-day escalation point for the bookkeeping team as your experience develops.
- Provide backup support to the Financial Controller on core accounting matters.
Growing into the Role
This role is designed to develop with you. As you gain experience, you will gradually take on selected debtors and general administrative responsibilities currently handled by the Bookkeeper.
The aim is to build your accounting knowledge and give you increasing ownership of the finance function, in close cooperation with the Financial Controller.
What We Are Looking For
- A degree or vocational qualification in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration or a related field .
- 1–3 years of relevant accounting or finance experience; strong starters with less experience are also welcome.
- Good understanding of basic accounting principles and the general ledger.
- Experience with reconciliations, journal entries and month-end activities is an advantage.
- Strong attention to detail and a structured way of working.
- Good analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Comfortable working with Excel and accounting/ERP systems.
- Good communication skills and the ability to work with colleagues across different functions and countries.
- Fluent in English; Dutch is an advantage.
- A proactive mindset and willingness to learn and take on increasing responsibility.
What You Can Expect
- An international working environment with exposure to multiple entities and jurisdictions.
- A broad accounting role with a clear development path.
- Direct cooperation with the Financial Controller and wider Payrollminds team.
- The opportunity to develop your knowledge of accounting, reporting, VAT and international finance.
- A growing company where you can make a visible contribution and take ownership of your work.
