The Junior Business & Systems Analyst is a foundational role within Syntech's Development & Systems Operations (Dev & Sys Ops) division, reporting to the Head of Development & Systems Operations.

As Syntech continues to grow and evolve, this role plays a key part in supporting the ongoing enhancement and optimisation of our business systems and processes. The successful candidate will serve as the analytical link between business stakeholders and technical teams, gathering requirements, mapping business processes, coordinating user acceptance testing, and maintaining the documentation that supports scalable, efficient operations.

Working closely with teams across Sales, Warehouse, Finance, and Marketing, you will translate business needs into clear functional requirements, validate system enhancements, and contribute to maintaining high standards of data quality and governance. Through these efforts, you will help drive informed decision-making, operational excellence, and continuous improvement across the organisation.

This role offers exceptional hands-on exposure to business analysis, process improvement, automation, and AI-enabled solutions across Syntech's core platforms, including ERP, e-commerce, work management, and system integration applications. As part of a team that designs, develops, and supports its systems in-house, you will have the opportunity to make a meaningful impact while developing valuable technical and analytical expertise.

Why Syntech

At Syntech, we're a forward-thinking, technology-driven company guided by our core values:

  • Appreciation of excellence: Celebrate exceptional work & ideas.
  • Honourable candour: Build trust with honesty, transparency, & accountability.
  • Thirst for learning: Stay curious, embrace feedback, & continuously grow.
  • Commitment to innovation: Drive change through constant, iterative improvement.

If you thrive in a high-performance, fast-paced environment, love solving complex challenges, and are passionate about achieving exceptional results, Syntech is the place for you.

Minimum Requirements

Requirements

  • Final-year student or recent graduate in Information Systems, Computer Science, Industrial Engineering, or equivalent.
  • Exposure to any ERP, CRM, or work-management platform (e.g. Fincon, MS Dynamics, Oracle, Monday.com) through internship, project work, or a part-time role is advantageous — not required.

Skills

  • Strong problem-solving skills with a curiosity to investigate issues and find root causes.
  • Excellent technical communication, clear documentation, user guides, and specifications.
  • Process mapping and flowcharting (BPMN, swimlanes, or similar).
  • Comfortable interviewing stakeholders and translating business needs into structured requirements.
  • Working knowledge of SQL and comfortable working with structured data (JSON in particular).
  • Familiarity with low-code/no-code automation tools such as Make, n8n, Zapier, or RPA platforms.
  • Basic understanding of AI concepts and their practical business application.
  • Awareness of data governance and privacy principles (POPIA) advantageous.
  • Basic HTML/CSS/JavaScript, nice to have, not required.

Personality traits

  • Results-oriented, highly organised, and a natural problem-solver.
  • Collaborative and team-focused, but able to work independently when required.
  • Comfortable engaging stakeholders at all levels and asking "why" until the real requirement surfaces.
  • Ability to adapt to new technologies and tools.
  • Committed to ongoing learning and development.

Duties and Responsibilities

This role is the analytical front-end of the division's projects and the primary custodian of system documentation.

Business Analysis & Requirements

  • Elicit and document business requirements from stakeholders across Sales, Warehouse, Finance, Marketing and HR.
  • Translate requirements into clear functional specifications for development and automation work.
  • Coordinate User Acceptance Testing (UAT): plan test scenarios, manage stakeholder testing, track issues, and obtain sign-off.
  • Support post-implementation reviews to confirm delivered systems meet the original requirement.

Process Mapping & Analysis

  • Audit and map current business processes, documenting system dependencies and data flows.
  • Contribute to process-mining analyses of operational data, helping identify bottlenecks and improvement opportunities.

Documentation & Knowledge Base

  • Lead the creation and maintenance of up-to-date system documentation and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for all key applications and data flows.
  • Contribute to the development of a self-service knowledge base / wiki / intranet, the foundation for the division's internal AI knowledge tools.

Data Analysis

  • Maintain and validate business data sources and flows, ensuring data accuracy and adherence to governance best practices.
  • Analyse system data to contribute new business insights, helping deploy clear, actionable dashboards that boost visibility and enable data-driven decisions.

Project & Automation Support

  • Create and/or maintain automations and integrations across the automation suite (low-code/no-code tools, RPA, AI)
  • Act as the first point of contact for process and data queries from business users; technical, access and infrastructure issues are routed to the IS/IT Administrator.
