Junior Chef/cook

Position overview

A National catering business in the sports industry is seeking a reliable and enthusiastic Junior Chef / Cook to join our kitchen team. The successful candidate should have approximately 1 year of practical kitchen experience together with a relevant culinary qualification.

This position would suit someone who is passionate about food, works well in a busy environment and is looking to further develop their skills and experience.

Minimum Requirements

• Relevant Culinary / Professional Cookery Diploma or Certificate
• Approximately 1 year of experience working in a professional kitchen
• Basic knowledge of food preparation, cooking techniques and kitchen operations (hot and cold)
• Understanding of food hygiene, health and safety standards
• Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment
• Reliable, punctual and willing to learn
• Ability to work well as part of a team
• Willingness to work shifts, weekends and public holidays as required

Key Responsibilities

• Assist with the preparation and cooking of meals according to required standards
• Prepare ingredients and complete daily food preparation
• Follow recipes, portion controls and presentation standards
• Maintain cleanliness and hygiene within the kitchen and food preparation areas
• Ensure food is stored and handled correctly
• Assist with stock control and minimise food wastage
• Maintain kitchen equipment and report any faults or maintenance requirements
• Support senior kitchen staff during busy service periods
• Comply with all health, safety and food hygiene requirements
• Perform other reasonable kitchen-related duties as required

Working Hours

• The business operates 7 days a week
• The successful candidate will work according to a shift roster
• 2 days off per week, as determined by the operational roster
• Weekend and public holiday work will form part of the position

Salary & Probation

Starting Salary: R5,500 per month

The successful candidate will be appointed subject to a 3-month probationary period.

Upon successful completion of probation, the employee's performance and remuneration will be reviewed. Any salary adjustment will be based on performance and operational requirements and is not automatic.

Pay: R5 000,00 - R5 500,00 per month

Work Location: In person
