Overview
The Junior Financial Accountant is responsible for executing core day-to-day finance activities, supporting billing, debtor management, transaction processing, and reporting. It requires strong attention to detail, discipline in following processes, and the ability to manage routine work reliably and compliance with deadlines.
Key Responsibilities
1. Billing & Revenue Support
· Assist in preparing and processing monthly customer invoices, ensuring all required inputs are complete and accurate.
· Validate billing data against underlying project or operational information to prevent errors.
· Highlight discrepancies or missing information prior to invoice generation.
· Support maintenance of accurate revenue records and billing schedules.
2. Debtors & Collections Administration
· Maintain and update debtor schedules, ensuring all balances are accurate and current.
· Assist with weekly follow-ups on overdue accounts, tracking responses and commitments.
· Record and monitor customer communications related to payments.
· Escalate unresolved or high-risk debtor issues to senior team members.
3. Cashbook & Transaction Processing
· Capture all financial transactions accurately and timeously within the accounting system.
· Perform weekly cashbook reconciliations, ensuring alignment with bank statements.
· Investigate and resolve minor discrepancies, escalating where required.
· Maintain clear and organised transaction records.
4. Reporting Support
· Prepare weekly operational reports, including debtor reports, sales reports, and cash movement inputs.
· Ensure data used in reporting is accurate, complete, and up to date.
· Support month-end reporting by providing validated data and schedules.
· Assist in maintaining consistency across reporting outputs.
5. Supplier & Payment Support
· Assist with capturing and maintaining supplier records and documentation.
· Support preparation of supplier payments by ensuring invoices are correctly recorded and approved.
· Help track outstanding supplier balances and payment status.
6. Operational Finance Support
· Assist with payroll preparation inputs where required, ensuring supporting data is accurate.
· Maintain organised financial records and filing systems.
· Support ad hoc finance tasks as required by the team.
7. Process Adherence & Execution Discipline
· Follow defined financial processes and procedures consistently.
· Manage high-volume, routine tasks with accuracy and reliability.
· Ensure deadlines for weekly and monthly deliverables are consistently met.
· Proactively raise issues or uncertainties rather than allowing errors to persist.
