Requirements

• Grade 12
• Accredited Firefighter 1 Certificate
• Accredited Hazmat Operations Certificate
• Wildland Firefighter 1 Certificate (advantageous)
• Respiratory protection (advantageous)
• First Aid Level 3 Certificate (in-dated)
• Medically fit
• Physical and mental fitness
• Code B Driver’s license
• No Criminal Record

Key Performance Areas

• Carries out firefighting and emergency operations under

guidance, mentorship and supervision of seniors and officers

in charge.

• Preparing for emergency incidents and protection duties to

reduce the incidents and severity of fires and providing a safer

environment for fire-fighters and communities.

• Preparing for emergency incidents by ensuring that equipment

is safe, available and in sound working order for operational

efficiency at emergency incidents as well as to maintain a safe

and hygienic working environment.

• Performs basic administrative functions to ensure that adequate

records are maintained.

• Managing training and skills development and the transfer of

skills and knowledge

SPECIAL CONDITIONS ATTACHED TO THE POSITION:

• Specific physical attributes, which can become essential for

the execution of tasks /duties inherent in the job design,

necessitates that the incumbent be physically fit and able bodied.

• Deals with people under stress
• Performs heavy lifting and strenuous physical activity in

confined areas and at elevated temperatures whilst wearing

personal protective clothing and equipment weighing
