Junior Graphic Designer
Wholesale Merchandise
Cape Town, Western Cape
Job description
We are looking for a motivated and reliable Junior Graphic Designer / Artwork Assistant to join our team on a part-time basis.
We operate within the promotional products, corporate gifting and branded merchandise industry, supplying customised products to clients across the UK and internationally.
This is an ideal opportunity for a junior designer who wants to gain practical experience in a fast-paced commercial environment. The role will involve creating client visuals, preparing and checking artwork, working with supplier templates and online product tools, and assisting our team with the day-to-day artwork requirements of client orders.
Full training will be provided on our internal systems, processes and industry-specific requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Create professional product visuals and artwork presentations for clients.
- Place and position client logos onto promotional products and clothing.
- Work with supplied artwork files, including AI, EPS, PDF, SVG and other common formats.
- Make basic adjustments to logos and artwork where required.
- Use Adobe Illustrator and Canva to prepare client visuals and artwork.
- Use supplier websites and online visualisation tools to create product mock-ups.
- Check artwork carefully for sizing, positioning, colours, spelling and general accuracy.
- Prepare artwork according to supplier and production requirements.
- Update jobs and artwork information within our CRM system.
- Work closely with the sales, operations and production teams.
- Manage multiple artwork requests and priorities while meeting deadlines.
- Follow jobs through from initial visual to approved production artwork.
Essential Requirements
As this is a remote position, you will need:
- A reliable computer running Windows 10 or newer, or a relatively recent MacBook/iMac capable of comfortably running Adobe Illustrator.
- A stable fibre internet connection of at least 30 Mbps.
- A dedicated and professional workstation suitable for working remotely.
- General working knowledge of Adobe Illustrator.
- General working knowledge of Canva.
- Basic understanding of CRM systems would be beneficial, although full training will be provided.
- Basic understanding of creating product visuals using online shops, supplier websites and online tools would be beneficial; training will also be provided.
The Person We're Looking For
Technical ability is important, but attitude and reliability are equally important to us.
You should be:
- Hard-working and dependable.
- Loyal and committed.
- Punctual and organised.
- Self-disciplined and comfortable working independently.
- Extremely attentive to detail.
- Able to follow instructions accurately.
- Comfortable working to deadlines.
- A good communicator.
- Able to work well as part of a team.
- Willing to take initiative rather than always waiting to be told what to do.
- Keen to learn and develop your skills.
- Comfortable asking questions when something is unclear rather than making assumptions.
Advantageous Experience
The following would be a bonus, but is not essential:
- Previous experience within the promotional products, corporate gifting, branded merchandise or clothing industry.
- Understanding of branding and printing methods such as:
- Screen printing
- Embroidery
- DTF / transfer printing
- Pad printing
- Digital printing
- Laser engraving
- Sublimation
- Understanding of Pantone colours and colour matching.
- Experience preparing print-ready or production artwork.
- Experience working with vector artwork and logo files.
- Experience with e-commerce platforms, product catalogues or supplier websites.
- Any additional graphic design, artwork, digital marketing or administrative experience will be welcomed.
Working Arrangement
- Position: Junior Graphic Designer / Artwork Assistant
- Employment: Part-Time
- Working Location: Remote
- Training: Full training on our CRM, supplier systems, visualisation tools and internal processes will be provided.
What We Value
We're looking for someone who wants to become part of the team rather than simply complete assigned tasks.
Attention to detail is extremely important in our industry. A small mistake with a logo, colour, spelling, positioning or artwork specification can affect an entire production run, so we value people who check their work carefully, take ownership of their responsibilities and speak up when something doesn't look right.
In return, you'll have the opportunity to gain hands-on experience across graphic design, branded merchandise, print production and international promotional product sourcing while developing your skills within a growing business.
Pay: R4 000,00 - R5 000,00 per month
Work Location: Remote
