JUNIOR LEGAL ADVISOR - FTC
Location: Fourways, Johannesburg, South Africa
Business Unit: Supply Chain | Procurement
Reports To: Head of Legal

ROLE IMPACT
To provide legal support to the business through the drafting, review and negotiation of commercial agreements, legal research, compliance monitoring, corporate governance support, and legal risk management. The role assists business stakeholders in making informed decisions while ensuring legal compliance and protecting the organization's interests. Turnaround time on legal reviews, quality of legal documentation, legal risk mitigation, compliance adherence, stakeholder satisfaction and reduction of external legal spend.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Legal Advisory
- Provide legal advice on routine commercial and operational matters.
- Interpret legislation and regulations relevant to the business.
- Conduct legal research and prepare legal opinions, guidance notes and recommendations.
- Support business units in resolving legal issues and disputes.
Contract Management
- Draft, review and negotiate commercial agreements.
- Review contract terms and identify legal risks.
- Ensure contracts align with business objectives and legal requirements.
- Maintain and update standard contract templates.
- Support contract lifecycle management and record keeping.
Corporate Governance
- Assist with the implementation of corporate governance standards.
- Support compliance with the Companies Act and other applicable legislation.
- Assist with board, committee and governance-related administrative requirements.
- Monitor changes in legislation and advise stakeholders accordingly.
Compliance
- Support legal and regulatory compliance initiatives.
- Assist with compliance monitoring and reporting.
- Participation in compliance investigations where required.
- Help develop and maintain compliance frameworks and registers.
Risk Management
- Identify legal and contractual risks.
- Recommend risk mitigation strategies.
- Escalate significant legal matters and risks appropriately.
- Assist in maintaining legal risk registers.
Policy and Procedure Development
- Draft, review and update policies, procedures and legal templates.
- Ensure documentation reflects current legislative requirements and best practice.
Stakeholder Management
- Build effective working relationships across the organization.
- Liaise with external legal counsel and regulatory bodies where required.
- Support legal training and awareness initiatives.
Legal Administration
- Maintain legal databases and document repositories.
- Track legal matters and ensure timely follow-up.
- Prepare legal reports and management updates.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Qualifications
BCom Honours Law or LLB
- Admitted Attorney is advantageous
- Postgraduate qualifications in Commercial Law, Corporate Law, Compliance or Corporate Governance would be highly advantageous.
