JUNIOR MARKETING & GROWTH LEAD

KUMO | 12-Month Contract Location:

Durban, KwaZulu-Natal

Contract: 12 Months Experience: 2–5 years Salary: R8,000–R15,000 per month, depending on experience and capability Start: September

ABOUT KUMO

KUMO is a South African technology startup focused on supporting the growth of township businesses. We are building a new technology-driven business platform designed around the needs of South African entrepreneurs and small businesses.

KUMO is preparing for its market launch in October 2026, and we're looking for an energetic, ambitious and commercially minded marketing professional to join us at this important stage of our journey.

This is an opportunity to join an early-stage technology company and help build the brand from the ground up.

THE ROLE

We are looking for a vibrant, confident and creative Junior Marketing & Growth Lead to help KUMO establish its presence in the market and build its initial customer base.

This is a hands-on marketing and growth position. You won't simply be responsible for posting on social media.

You will be involved in:

Marketing

Social media

Content creation

Customer engagement

Lead generation

Field marketing

Brand representation

Market research

Launch activities.

You will work closely with the founder of KUMO and have the opportunity to play a meaningful role in the company's early development.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Marketing & Brand:

Assist in developing and executing KUMO's marketing strategy.

Develop marketing campaigns and promotional initiatives.

Help build KUMO's presence within the target market.

Maintain consistency across KUMO's marketing communications.

Identify opportunities to increase brand awareness.

Social Media & Content:

Create content for TikTok, Facebook and Instagram.

Develop creative content ideas.

Appear in KUMO videos and promotional material.

Help communicate KUMO's value proposition clearly.

Monitor content performance and identify what resonates with audiences.

Customer Engagement & Growth:

Engage directly with prospective customers.

Build relationships with township business owners.

Generate and manage leads.

Introduce prospective customers to KUMO.

Conduct introductory demonstrations where required.

Follow up with prospective customers.

Assist with customer onboarding and launch activities.

Field Marketing:

You must be comfortable interacting with businesses in person.

This may involve:

Visiting businesses.

Speaking with business owners. Introducing KUMO.

Generating leads.

Supporting promotional activities. Gathering feedback from the market.

Market Research:

Understand the needs and challenges of the target market.

Monitor competitors.

Gather customer feedback.

Identify trends and opportunities. Communicate useful market insights to the founder.

EXPERIENCE & QUALIFICATIONS 2–5 years of relevant experience in areas such as:

Marketing

Digital marketing

Social media

Brand marketing

Sales & marketing

Content creation

Communications

Customer acquisition.

A relevant marketing, communications, business or related qualification will be advantageous. Strong practical experience may be considered alongside formal qualifications.

YOU MUST BE COMFORTABLE WITH:

WHAT SUCCESS LOOKS LIKE:

During the 12-month contract, you will contribute towards:

Building KUMO's brand awareness.

Growing its social-media presence.

Generating qualified leads.

Building relationships with potential customers.

Supporting the October launch.

Growing KUMO's initial customer base.

Developing effective marketing campaigns.

Learning directly from the market and feeding those insights back into the business.

We're interested in results, not just activity. Likes and followers are useful, but our ultimate objective is building a real customer base.

THIS IS AN EARLY-STAGE STARTUP

KUMO is not a large corporate environment with a large marketing department. You'll need to be comfortable with:

Taking initiative.

Trying new ideas.

Learning quickly.

Working independently.

Speaking to customers.

Being on camera.

Getting out into the market.

The role is based in Durban, KwaZulu-Natal and will involve both remote/digital work and engagement with businesses in the field.
