Job description

Junior Production AssistantScenic Division • Cape Town

On-site • Full-time • Start: as soon as possible • We are looking to fill this role urgently.

About Ampere

Ampere Event Technology is a leading event technical & scenic production specialist company with branches in Cape Town and Johannesburg. We deliver custom scenic solutions, technical production, AV, staging, and logistics for live events, exhibitions, and brand activations across South Africa. This position sits within our Scenic Division in Cape Town, which designs and delivers high-quality custom scenic builds for some of the country's most exciting brands and events.

The Role

We're looking for a sharp, switched-on Junior Production Assistant to support our scenic production team. This is a dynamic, hands-on role that blends office and warehouse admin with real on-site event and installation work. You'll be a key right hand to our production team - driving research, sourcing, planning documentation, logistics, and day-to-day production support.

This is not a standard 9-to-5. You'll be based in Cape Town (office + scenic warehouse), but you'll regularly work on installation sites and live events, often outside standard hours - early starts, late finishes, weekends, and extended project periods as required. You won't independently coordinate full events; you'll be the person keeping the team that does, running smoothly.

What You'll Do

  • Keep projects organised - help build and maintain spreadsheets, timelines, trackers, planning sheets, schedules, equipment lists, and job packs.
  • Conduct online research on suppliers, materials, scenic elements, and production solutions.
  • Source suppliers, request quotations, and prepare purchase orders and supplier records.
  • Book accommodation, catering, transport, and other project logistics.
  • Assist with warehouse organisation and scenic element handling.
  • Provide hands-on support during scenic installations, setups, and strike/breakdowns — on site and at the warehouse.
  • Support freelance crew bookings and communicate logistics clearly.
  • Handle a wide variety of ad-hoc tasks in a fast-paced, "whatever's thrown at you" environment.

What We're Looking For

  • Genuinely switched-on — a fast learner who thinks ahead, spots problems early, and takes initiative without being asked twice.
  • Strong computer literacy — confident and quick across software, comfortable picking up new tools fast.
  • Strong administration and planning skills — highly organised, detail-obsessed, and able to juggle multiple moving parts.
  • Confident with Google Workspace — especially Google Sheets (trackers, formulas, filters, planning tools) and Google Docs for documentation and collaboration.
  • Strong online research skills — resourceful at finding suppliers, materials, and information quickly and accurately.
  • Strong communicator; proactive, reliable, and team-oriented.
  • Willing and able to work flexible/irregular hours and on event sites as projects demand.
  • Physically fit and comfortable with hands-on warehouse and event-site work (standing for long periods, light lifting, indoor/outdoor venues).
  • Own reliable transport is essential — you'll need to get yourself to the office, warehouse, and event sites around Cape Town, often at early or late hours. Valid driver's licence essential.
  • Experience in events, production, exhibitions, logistics, or scenic/build is preferred; motivated candidates with the right attitude and skills will be considered.
  • Matric essential; relevant tertiary qualification in events, production, logistics, or a related field is a plus.

What We Offer

Real hands-on exposure to the full scenic production lifecycle, high-profile projects for leading clients & brands, a supportive and collaborative team, and a genuine career development path across scenic and event production services.

How to Apply

Think this is you? Email your CV and a short motivation telling us why you're the right fit to hiring@ampere.co.za , with "Junior Production Assistant – Scenic Division" as the subject line. Tell us a bit about your admin and planning strengths, how comfortable you are with Google Workspace, and confirm you have your own reliable transport. We're filling this role urgently, so don't sit on it — we'll be in touch with shortlisted candidates.
