Purpose of the Role
The Junior Provisioning Engineer Intern will support the Provisioning team with the delivery and provisioning of Frogfoot products and services while gaining practical experience in network operations.
Working under the guidance of the Provisioning Supervisor and experienced team members, the intern will assist with circuit provisioning, equipment configuration, network management systems, fault and order tracking, technical queries and general provisioning activities.
This role is designed to provide real-world technical exposure while developing the intern's problem-solving, networking, customer service and operational skills.
What You'll Learn & Do
Fibre Provisioning & Configuration
- Assist with provisioning new circuits as ordered by customers.
- Support the configuration of managed Frogfoot equipment.
- Gain exposure to FTTH and FTTB provisioning.
- Assist with updating network management systems.
- Support IP address management and record keeping.
- Learn how provisioning orders are processed and tracked.
Technical Support & Problem Solving
- Assist with resolving provisioning-related support queries.
- Investigate technical issues under guidance from experienced team members.
- Apply a logical and methodical approach to technical problems.
- Escalate issues appropriately when additional support is required.
- Follow issues through to resolution and learn from the process.
Orders, Faults & Service Levels
- Assist with updating order and fault tracking systems.
- Monitor assigned activities and provide updates where required.
- Learn how SLAs, OLAs and KPIs impact service delivery.
- Support the team in meeting agreed service levels and deadlines.
- Develop an understanding of how productivity and efficiency contribute to customer service.
Customer & Team Support
- Assist with customer calls as part of the wider project team.
- Communicate professionally with internal teams and customers.
- Work with internal departments to resolve provisioning requirements.
- Gain exposure to supplier and vendor interactions.
- Build positive relationships with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Learn, Grow & Get Involved
- Learn new technical systems, processes and technologies.
- Ask questions and seek guidance when required.
- Participate in projects and team initiatives.
- Take ownership of assigned tasks and follow them through.
- Support other reasonable duties and projects as assigned by line management.
Who We're Looking For
We're looking for someone who is technically curious, eager to learn, and excited about building a career in networking and telecommunications.
You should:
- Be a South African Citizen.
- Be between 18 and 35 years of age.
- Have completed Grade 12 / Matric.
- Have a relevant 3-year Degree or Diploma in Information Technology, Networking, Computer Science, Telecommunications or a related technical field; OR
- Have a relevant Higher Certificate or Occupational Qualification at NQF Level 5.
- Be currently unemployed.
- Not be enrolled in any MICT SETA or other SETA-funded programme.
- Have a genuine interest in networking, fibre and telecommunications.
- Be comfortable working with computers and technical systems.
- Have good written and verbal communication skills.
- Be analytical, methodical and detail-oriented.
- Be willing to learn new concepts and technologies.
- Be comfortable working as part of a team.
- Have a positive, can-do attitude.
No previous formal provisioning experience is required.
Computer & Technical Skills We Value
You don't need to know everything — we're looking for someone with a strong technical interest and a willingness to learn.
We value exposure to:
- Microsoft Office Suite
- Microsoft Excel and basic data capturing
- Basic networking concepts
- Network management systems
- IP addressing and IP address management
- Fault and order tracking systems
- Fibre/FTTH/FTTB concepts
- MikroTik technologies
- Cisco technologies
Technical Certifications We Value
The following will be advantageous:
- CompTIA A+
- CompTIA Network+
- MTCNA, together with MikroTik experience
- Cisco CCNA
These certifications are advantageous rather than a requirement for the internship.
