Junior Quantity Surveyor (Contractor Side)
Location: Cape Town, Western CapePosition
Type: 6-Month Contract (Strong potential for permanent placement)
Remuneration: R18,000 – R20,000 per month
Commencement:
As soon as possible Role Overview We are seeking a meticulous and driven Junior Quantity Surveyor to become a key member of our contracting division. In this capacity, you will be instrumental in driving the commercial viability and success of our construction initiatives. This opportunity starts as a six-month contract, offering a clear route to permanent employment for a professional who exhibits precision, dependability, and a strong commitment to their work.Your main objective will be the precise measurement of quantities and the creation of Bills of Quantities (BOQs). Additionally, you will provide essential support to the senior commercial staff in managing daily project operations.
Primary Responsibilities Essential Functions:
Execute precise quantity take-offs from architectural and engineering plans and models.Compile, cost, and format detailed Bills of Quantities (BOQs).Support the drafting of tender submissions and the formulation of project cost projections.
Standard Commercial Duties:
Purchasing & Procurement: Help evaluate and adjudicate quotations from suppliers and subcontractors. Progress Valuations: Perform site measurements to compile and lodge monthly payment claims.Subcontractor Administration: Balance subcontractor accounts and draft their monthly payment certificates.
Scope Changes (Variations):
Spot, document, and price alterations to the project scope and site instructions.Financial Monitoring: Aid the Senior Quantity Surveyor in generating monthly financial reports, monitoring budgets, and overseeing project cash flow.
Team Synergy:
Coordinate effectively with Site Managers, foremen, and external advisory teams to guarantee commercial targets are achieved.
Candidate Requirements
Background & Education:
A minimum of 3 years of demonstrable experience as a Quantity Surveyor within a contracting firm (experience with a main contractor is strongly favored).
A relevant Degree or National Diploma in Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, or an allied discipline.
Technical Skills & Abilities:
High-level expertise in quantity take-offs and the production of BOQs.
Comprehensive knowledge of construction techniques, building materials, and standard forms of contract (such as JBCC, GCC, or FIDIC).
Competence in industry-recognized commercial software (e.g., WinQS, CCS Candy, DimensionX, or Bluebeam).
Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
Robust numerical aptitude and analytical problem-solving skills.Superior time
management capabilities, ensuring strict adherence to tender and reporting schedules.
