JUNIOR DATA ENGINEER

Location: Cape Town Remote / Hybrid | Experience Level: Entry to Junior (1–2 years)

Job Overview

We are looking for a driven Junior Data Developer to join our growing data team. In this role, you will help bridge the gap between raw data sources and actionable business insights. You will write SQL queries, extract data using APIs, and build automated reports using Power BI and the Microsoft Power Platform. This is an excellent opportunity for a junior professional to learn from senior engineers and scale their technical skills in a modern data environment.

Key Responsibilities

· Data Querying & Transformation: Write, optimize, and maintain SQL queries to extract and clean data from our databases.

· API Integration: Connect to, test, and ingest data from external and internal Web APIs (REST/SOAP) to expand our data ecosystem.

· Report & Dashboard Development: Design, build, and maintain interactive dashboards and reports in Power BI using DAX and Power Query.

· Workflow Automation: Utilize Power Automate and Power Apps to build low-code applications and automate routine data workflows.

· Data Modeling: Assist in building and maintaining clean star-schema data models and semantic layers.

Required Skills & Qualifications

· SQL Foundations: Solid understanding of relational databases and hands-on experience writing basic to intermediate SQL queries (e.g., JOINs, Group By, Subqueries).

· API Familiarity: Basic understanding of HTTP methods (GET, POST) and experience pulling data from JSON/XML-based REST APIs.

· Power BI & DAX: Experience building basic reports, configuring data gateways, and writing standard DAX expressions.

· Power Platform Exposure: Fundamental knowledge or academic project experience using Power Automate and Power Apps.

· Problem Solving: A structured, analytical approach to debugging data pipeline issues.

· Education: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Data Analytics, or a related field (or equivalent practical experience/portfolio).

Nice-to-Have Skills

· Microsoft Certifications (e.g., PL-300 Power BI Data Analyst or PL-100/200 Power Platform).

· Exposure to cloud data platforms like Azure (Azure SQL, Data Factory) or Microsoft Fabric.

· Basic scripting knowledge in Python for data manipulation.

Pay: R35 000,00 - R45 000,00 per month
