About the Role

The North Face is looking for a responsible, trustworthy and customer-focused Key Holder Sales Assistant to join our retail team.

This position combines the responsibilities of a Sales Associate with additional operational and leadership duties. The successful candidate will be trusted with opening and closing the store, managing the store in the absence of the Store Manager or Assistant Manager, completing daily operational controls, overseeing the sales floor and ensuring that store standards are maintained throughout the day.

This role is ideal for someone with strong retail experience who is ready to take on more responsibility and develop towards a future supervisory or management position.

Key Responsibilities

Store Opening & Closing

- Responsible for opening and closing the store according to company procedures.

- Ensure the store is opened on time and fully prepared for daily trade.

- Complete all required opening and closing security checks.

- Ensure doors, alarms, tills, stock areas and other key operational areas are correctly secured.

- Take responsibility for store keys and follow all key-control procedures.

- Ensure all end-of-day procedures are completed accurately before leaving the store.

Management in the Absence of Store Management

- Take responsibility for the store when the Store Manager or Assistant Manager is not present.

- Provide direction and support to Sales Associates during the shift.

- Allocate daily duties and ensure operational tasks are completed.

- Maintain strong customer-service, sales, housekeeping and security standards throughout the day.

- Assist with resolving customer queries and operational issues.

- Escalate serious incidents or concerns to management when required.

- Ensure staff remain focused on sales targets, customer service and store responsibilities.

Morning Counts & Operational Controls

- Complete required morning counts accurately and according to company procedures.

- Verify tills, floats, POS-related controls and other required daily checks.

- Report discrepancies immediately to management.

- Maintain accurate records and complete required documentation.

Replenishment & Stock Management

- Complete morning replenishment before or during the beginning of trade.

- Ensure the sales floor is fully stocked and correctly sized.

- Monitor stock levels throughout the day and replenish merchandise where required.

- Maintain organised stockroom and sales-floor standards.

- Assist with deliveries, stock transfers, stock counts and general inventory management.

- Ensure stock is handled carefully and according to company procedures.

Sales & Customer Service

- Deliver exceptional customer service and create a welcoming store environment.

- Engage customers, identify their needs and recommend suitable The North Face products.

- Maintain strong product knowledge across footwear, apparel, accessories and equipment.

- Work towards individual and store sales targets.

- Encourage additional and complementary sales where appropriate.

- Support customer loyalty initiatives and help build long-term customer relationships.

Housekeeping & Store Standards

- Ensure the store remains clean, organised and presentable throughout the trading day.

- Complete and oversee daily cleaning and housekeeping duties.

- Maintain fitting rooms, counters, displays, fixtures and customer areas.

- Ensure merchandise is correctly folded, hung, sized and presented.

- Maintain strong visual merchandising standards.

- Ensure the store is ready for customers at opening and left to the required standard at closing.

Banking & Cash Management

- Complete end-of-day banking and cash-management procedures accurately.

- Ensure cash, card and POS procedures are followed correctly.

- Verify required end-of-day documentation and report discrepancies.

- Handle company funds responsibly and according to security procedures.

- Ensure banking and related documentation are completed and secured according to company policy.

Security & Loss Prevention

- Maintain a strong security presence on the sales floor.

- Ensure staff remain vigilant regarding customers, merchandise and stock-loss risks.

- Follow all loss-prevention and security procedures.

- Report suspicious activity, damaged security tags, stock discrepancies or other security concerns immediately.

- Ensure security procedures are followed during store opening and closing.

What We Are Looking For

The ideal candidate will:

- Have previous retail sales experience.

- Preferably have previous Key Holder, Senior Sales Assistant, Supervisor or similar experience.

- Be trustworthy and comfortable taking responsibility for store keys, cash and store security.

- Have strong leadership skills and be confident directing a team when management is absent.

- Be highly organised and capable of prioritising multiple operational responsibilities.

- Have excellent customer-service and communication skills.

- Be sales-driven and motivated by achieving targets.

- Have strong attention to detail, particularly when completing counts, banking and operational controls.

- Be reliable, punctual and professional.

- Be confident making decisions and solving problems when required.

- Be willing to take accountability for the store during assigned shifts.

- Be comfortable working independently when necessary.

- Be available to work retail hours, including opening shifts, closing shifts, weekends, public holidays and peak trading periods.

Advantageous

The Person We Want

We are looking for someone who can be trusted to take ownership of the store when management is not present.

You should be confident enough to lead a shift, support the team, assist customers, manage operational responsibilities and ensure that company standards are maintained from opening through to closing.

This position requires a strong combination of sales ability, leadership, accountability, attention to detail and operational discipline.

For the right candidate, the Key Holder Sales Assistant position can also provide valuable experience and development towards future Supervisor, Assistant Manager or Store Management opportunities.
