L2 Infrastructure Database Administrator (MongoDB)

We are seeking an experienced L2 Infrastructure Database Administrator with strong MongoDB operational expertise to support and maintain mission-critical database platforms in a 24×7 production environment.

The role focuses on database reliability, performance, security, and availability, with responsibility for incident resolution, tuning, upgrades, and operational improvements.

Key Responsibilities

• Monitor database activity, capacity, and resource utilization to ensure availability and performance of production systems.
• Troubleshoot and resolve complex database incidents, including performance degradation, data access issues, and availability failures.
• Perform query and system performance tuning, recommending and implementing optimizations to improve response times and stability.
• Design, implement, and support high availability and disaster recovery solutions for MongoDB.
• Plan and execute database upgrades, patching, and maintenance activities with minimal downtime.
• Implement and enforce database security controls, access restrictions, and data protection policies.
• Monitor security advisories and apply patches to address vulnerabilities.
• Support backup and recovery strategies, including testing and validation of recovery scenarios.
• Review and approve database-related design changes to ensure performance, scalability, reliability, and security.
• Integrate databases with commercial off-the-shelf and open-source applications, resolving compatibility issues.
• Participate in incident, problem, and change management processes using standard enterprise tools.
• Maintain accurate documentation, runbooks, and recovery procedures.
• Provide technical guidance to junior team members and contribute to operational best practices.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, IT, Engineering, or equivalent practical experience.
• 5+ years of hands-on operational experience as a MongoDB DBA in production environments.
• Strong experience with MongoDB administration, including:
• High availability and replication
• Backup and recovery
• Performance tuning and query optimization
• Solid understanding of database design and server infrastructure.
• Experience working in Linux and Unix environments (Windows exposure advantageous).
• General understanding of information security principles related to databases.
• Experience working within ITIL / quality-driven operational environments.

Technical Skills

Core

• MongoDB (administration, HA, performance tuning)
• Backup, recovery, and disaster recovery planning
• Database monitoring and capacity planning

Platforms & Environment

• Linux / Unix (Windows Server exposure advantageous)
• Enterprise change, incident, and problem management tools

Additional / Desirable

• Scripting or programming skills for database automation
• Experience supporting large-scale or mission-critical systems
• Exposure to regulated or high-availability environments

Pay: R35 000,00 - R60 000,00 per month
