Job Description The Learning Officer is responsible for co-designing, implementing and evaluating training and development programs that enhance the skills, safety, and productivity of employees within the mining operation. This role ensures the workforce is equipped to meet current and future operational requirements while adhering to industry standards and regulations.
Safety
- Consistent application of Safety & Health principles in all discipline interactions and take personal responsibility for safety of self and others to ensure zero harm and elimination of fatalities.
Performance And Delivery
- Support with the repair, replacement or reporting of deviations from standards.
- Calling for specialist expertise when specialist problems occur, to achieve success.
- Veto on individual resources on their shift to attain capable and full complement crews.
- Advice on plans and schedules of the shift to minimize the amount of failure situations.
- Execute logistical support on items crew need to effect a successful blast.
- Stopping the operation if the working conditions are unsafe and highlight dangers to crews.
- Facilitate engaging coaching sessions using various methodologies.
- Assess the impact of training and coaching on employee performance and operational efficiency. Use feedback and performance data to refine training strategies.
- Maintain accurate records of coaching activities, participant progress, and program effectiveness for reporting and compliance purposes.
- Co-design comprehensive training programs based on needs assessments, covering safety, technical skills, leadership, and regulatory compliance.
People & Teams
- Actively engage as a team member in all team processes.
Compliance Ensure compliance with internal and external regulatory, legislative and permitting requirements.
Qualifications
- Grade 12
- NQF5 OD ETDP Level 5 Higher Certificate
- Valid Blasting Certificate.
- Completed a Shift Supervisor Certificate
- Safety Leadership Practices training (advantageous)
- Experience
- 4 years’ experience as a Shift/Snr Supervisor will be advantageous.
- Technical knowledge (experience) required for role:
- Proficient in training methodologies and adult learning principles.
- Advanced understanding of South African labour laws, regulations, and industry standards relevant to training and development within the mining industry.
- Proficiency in instructional design methodologies, adult learning theories, and learning technologies for designing, delivering, and evaluating training programs.
- Familiarity with digital learning platforms, and data analytics tools for managing training data, tracking performance metrics, and generating actionable insights.
- Knowledge of safety management systems, risk assessment techniques, and incident investigation protocols to support the development of safety training programs.
- Technical Skills:
- Excellent leadership and team-building skills to inspire and motivate team members, foster collaboration, and drive performance excellence.
- Strong project management abilities to plan, execute, and evaluate complex training and development initiatives, ensuring alignment with business goals and timelines.
- Analytical and problem-solving skills to assess training needs, analyse data, and develop data-driven strategies for optimizing learning outcomes and performance improvement.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate with internal and external stakeholders, including employees, management, trainers, and regulatory authorities.
- Adaptability and resilience to navigate challenges and uncertainties, leveraging a growth mindset and a commitment to lifelong learning to drive personal and professional development.
