Job description
Job Purpose
The lecturer will primarily be responsible for lecturing Economics across the faculty as a support subject as well as lecturing on the Economics programme. Moreover, the lecturer will be required to support the academic initiatives of the department such as programme and curriculum development, curriculum updates, supervision, research, community engagement as well as represent the department on different institutional forums.
Job Knowledge, Skills and Experience
Minimum requirements:
- Master's degree in Economics from a recognized South African university.
- An underpinning qualification (with majors in Economics up to and including third year level). The underpinning qualification must be from a South African university.
- At least two years full-time lecturing experience with first year economics at a South African higher education environment.
Recommended:
- A PHD in Economics, Land Economics, Construction Economics, or Property Economics.
- Experience using Blackboard (or any other similar LMS system) as a tool to teach and assess students.
- Evidence of research and publications.
- Knowledge and experience in curriculum design.
Key Performance Areas / Principal Accountabilities
- Delivery of Economics as a subject across departments in the Faculty.
- Development of curriculum for Economics programme.
- Subject coordination across departments.
- Management of Economics tutor programme.
- Administration of marks for various courses.
- Attendance at various committees.
- Adherence to relevant policies.
- Keeping abreast with developments in Blackboard.
- Publication of articles.
- Supervision of post-graduate students.
- Development of learning and teaching material.
- Development of online Blackboard assessments.
Competencies
- Ability to keep up-to-date with new developments in technology.
- Commitment to updating course material and presenting course material in a professional manner.
- Proficient and creative use of Blackboard to assess students.
- Adaptable to constantly changing and sometimes challenging environments.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Life-long learner with interest in research and innovation relevant to Economics.
- Creativity in developing Blackboard assessments.
