Faculty Department Cape Peninsula University of Technology -> Applied Sciences -> Environ. & Occupational Stud Campus/ Location District Six Campus - Cape Town, WC ZA (Primary)

Job Type Contract Occupational Function Academic Number of Positions 1 Annual Salary Package (incl. Medical Aid rate based on principal member only) To be confirmed Advert Closing Date 12/7/2026 Job Purpose The successful candidate will be expected to teach key modules, including Anatomy and Physiology 1, Sociology 1, Professional Practice 1, and Sustainable Development 1, to ECP students. The successful candidate will also contribute to the department's academic initiatives to enhance research and learning in Environmental Health across African and global contexts. The successful candidate will also be expected to contribute to the department's Work Integrated Learning and community engagement goals. Furthermore, the successful candidate will also support the departmental and faculty research strategic plans through their own research initiatives, research collaboration and postgraduate supervision in

Environmental Health and related fields.

Job Knowledge, Skills and Experience

  • Masters qualification in Environmental Health.
  • Base qualification should be in Environmental Health.
  • At least two years’ relevant full-time working experience, of which at least one year must be in a lecturing role at a higher education institution.
  • Must be registered with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) as an Environmental Health Practitioner (EHP)

  • Industry experience will be an added advantage Key Performance Areas / Principal Accountabilities The successful candidate will be expected to perform in the following areas:

  • Teach subjects in the Environmental Health Programme, including Anatomy and Physiology 1, Sociology 1, Professional Practice 1, and Sustainable Development 1, to ECP students.

  • Develop reusable learning and teaching materials for the subjects being taught (e.g., lecture notes, tutorials, online content).

  • Perform appropriate academic and administrative duties in the Department.

  • Participate in curriculum development activities.

  • Contribute to the department's Work Integrated Learning and community engagement goals.

  • Supervise and assess undergraduate and postgraduate Environmental Health students for their exit-level projects.

  • Participate in research and produce DHET-accredited publications at a rate of at least 0.5 publication units per year.

  • Participate in the Quality Assurance activities of the Department.

  • Assist with marketing and student recruitment activities.

  • Perform other functions as may be assigned by the Head of Department. Competencies
