Job description
The Curriculum and Social Sciences Division in the Wits School of Education at the University of the Witwatersrand invites applications for one position at the level of Lecturer in Geography Education. Requirements* A PhD in Geography or Geography Education.
- A professional teacher's qualification with Geography as a teaching subject.
- A strong foundation in Geography content knowledge to teach competently at undergraduate and postgraduate levels, in areas such as Physical Geography, Human Geography and subject methodology with Geographical Information Systems (GIS).
- Prior teaching experience in school and/or tertiary contexts.
- The ability to teach with relevant digital technologies.
- Evidence of research potential or output (e.g. publications).
- Ability to supervise research projects at the Honours, Master's and PhD level.
Duties* Teaching Geography Education courses at undergraduate and postgraduate levels, in areas including but not limited to Physical Geography, Human Geography, Geography subject methodology with Geographical Information Systems (GIS), and Environmental and Sustainability Education.
- Teaching with relevant digital technologies.
- Supervising Honours, Master's and PhD student research projects.
- Supervising students on Teaching Experience (TE).
- Course coordination and administrative responsibilities as assigned.
- Representing the Division on School committees.
- Producing research outputs.
