Lecturer (P8) / Senior Lecturer(P7): ICT Education

We seek to fill the position of Lecturer or Senior Lecturer in ICT Education in the Faculty of Education.The Department of Computer Science and Information Technology at Sol Plaatje University seeks to appoint a senior lecturer or lecturer in Computer Sciences. The candidate will be responsible for teaching and learning, research and community engagement and to provide support to the department/school in pursuit of its academic objectives. Responsibilities may also include curriculum development, student academic development, administration and quality assurance to contribute to the academic initiatives undertaken by the department/school.

Minimum Requirement

Lecturer P8

• A master’s degree (NQF9) with a specialisation in Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs) Education.
• A minimum of two (2) years of relevant teaching experience at university level or any other tertiary education level.
• Evidence of using ICTs in teaching at a school and/or university level.
• At least one peer-reviewed article in an accredited journal relevant to this field of study.
• Evidence of postgraduate supervision,
• Evidence of active participation in professional and/or community activities.
• At least two (2) years teaching experience
• Evidence of research activity
• Evidence of post graduate supervision
• Evidence of active participation in professional, industry and/or community activities
• Evidence of competence in administration of a course/subject at departmental level

Senior Lecturer P7

• a PhD degree (NQF10) with a specialisation in Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs) Education.
• At least five (5) years of relevant lecturing experience, with at least three (3) years as a lecturer in ICT education at a Higher Education institution.
• Demonstrate evidence of continuous research productivity in the form of publications in DHET-accredited journals and peer-reviewed conference proceedings, research papers presented at national and/or international conferences; contributions to scholarly books published by reputable publishers, in good standing with DHET and not linked to predatory practices; evidence of external research fundraising, citations (e.g. Scopus H- index); NRF rating is recommended.
• Evidence of using innovative and new ICTs at a university level.
• Provide evidence of contributions to curriculum development and design of learning materials.
• Experience of scholarly community engagement.
• Evidence of successful postgraduate supervision at master’s and/or PhD level**.**

Duties and Responsibilities

Teaching and Learning:

• Develop and deliver undergraduate and postgraduate courses.
• Utilize innovative and effective teaching methods to engage students and enhance their understanding of modules
• Mentor and advise students in research projects and academic pursuits.

Research:

• Conduct cutting-edge research with a focus on teacher education.
• Publish research findings in reputable peer-reviewed and accredited journals.
• Evidence of securing external funding through grants and collaborations.

Curriculum Development:

• Contribute to curriculum development and enhancement.
• Integrate emerging educational technologies and pedagogical approaches into course materials.

Community Engagement:

• Collaborate with local schools, organizations, and community initiatives.
• Participate in outreach programmes.

Professional Development:

• Stay abreast of the latest trends, research, and best practices
• Engage in professional development activities to enhance teaching, research, and supervision capabilities.

Academic Citizenships:

• Contribute to departmental and university service through committee participation.
• Provide leadership and support in advancing the goals of the department and institution.

Monitoring, Evaluations, and reporting

• Develop relevant reports as and when required.
• Communicate and consult with relevant stakeholders.
