Faculty Engineering Department Cape Peninsula University of Technology -> Engineering and the Built Environment -> Civil Engineering & Survey Campus/ Location Bellville Campus - Bellville, Cape Town, WC ZA (Primary)
Job Type Contract Occupational Function Academic Number of Positions 2 Annual Salary Package (incl. Medical Aid rate based on principal member only) To be confirmed Advert Closing Date 19/7/2026 Job Purpose Lecturing in the Department of Civil Engineering and Geomatics (Documentation, Water Engineering).
Job Knowledge, Skills and Experience Lecturer:
- Master’s degree in Civil Engineering.
- At least 2 years’ relevant teaching experience in higher education and/or 2 years’ industrial experience in the Civil Engineering industry.
Junior Lecturer:
- Honours Degree or equivalent in Civil Engineering. Must be registered for Masters in the area of study.
- At least 1 years’ relevant teaching experience in higher education and/or 1 years’ industrial experience in the Civil Engineering industry.

- Deliver high‑quality lecturing in Civil Engineering subjects.
- Develop, contribute and generate new knowledge through research outputs.
- Supervise and mentor students.
- Develop innovative teaching, learning and assessment materials.
- Contribute to curriculum and programme development.
- Promote community participation, linkages, outreach and industry liaison.
- Support assessment and academic development activities.
- Perform and assist with academic administrative duties.
- Ensure and participate in quality assurance practices within the Department. Competencies
- Proven ability to deliver structured, high‑quality lectures.
- Excellent command of written and spoken English.
- Strong digital literacy, including proficiency in MS Office, with sound organisational and time‑management skills.
- Demonstrated commitment to ongoing professional and academic development.
- Effective communication and academic presentation skills.
- Ability to work independently and exercise sound academic judgement.
- Knowledge of continuous evaluation and integrated assessment methods.
- Strong student‑centred approach to teaching and learning.
- Ability to adapt to evolving academic and institutional needs.
- Strong interpersonal skills for effective engagement in an academic environment.
- Competence in coaching and mentoring students.
