Legal Advisor

PURPOSE OF THE JOB

This role will be responsible for handling a variety of complex assigned legal projects and acting as counsel on issues involving company compliance with governmental and regulatory standards. The Legal Advisor will review legal documentation, provide advice on appropriate action, and coordinate legal matters requiring external legal assistance.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Drafting, reviewing and assisting with the negotiation of various commercial agreements
• Providing legal advice and opinions on various legal matters
• Advice and assistance on effective new legislative enactments, amendments and matters affecting the Company
• Working knowledge of company, tax and consumer legislation, including the National Credit Act (NCA), the Consumer Protection Act (CPA), the Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA), the Financial Intelligence Centre Act (FICA)
• Facilitate dispute resolution and litigation process
• Mergers and Acquisitions advice including due diligence investigations
• Assistance with trademarks, copyright and design matters
• Conduct legal research, draft legal opinions, and provide legal advice to the Pepkor Group as required
• Provide or facilitate training
• Pro-actively fully understand and be able to communicate and advise on pending legal changes/Acts that will affect the Pepkor group businesses
• Support the legal team as required
• Working knowledge of company secretarial procedures

JOB INCUMBENT REQUIREMENTS

• Admitted Attorney with 3+ years PQE, preferably in technology, media and telecommunications
• Legal Degree, preferably B.Comm (LLB)
• Experience in contract drafting and negotiation
• Competencies required: excellent communication, time management skills, interpersonal skills, team player, building relationships, detail orientation
