Linux DevOps Engineer (Post Level 9)

The incumbent will form part of a team responsible for development and operations of various Linux systems within the Faculties of Science and AgriSciences at Stellenbosch University (SU).

This is a dynamic environment where skills are developed, and tasks are assigned as the need changes. At present there are opportunities within the Linux Systems on-premises and

cloud-based environments. Please note that the level of appointment and remuneration will be negotiated in line with experience.

Die posbekleër sal deel vorm van 'n span wat verskeie Linux stelsels binne die Fakulteite Natuurwetenskappe en AgriWetenskappe ontwikkel en bedryf. Dit is 'n dinamiese omgewing waarin

vaardighede verder ontwikkel word en take toegeken word soos behoeftes verander. Daar is tans geleenthede binne die Linux-stelsels se "on-premises" en wolkgebaseerde omgewings.

Neem asseblief kennis dat die vlak van aanstelling en vergoeding in ooreenstemming met jou ervaring sal onderhandel word.

Duties/Pligte

• Installation, daily maintenance and monitoring of Linux computer systems and servers at Stellenbosch University, specifically in the Faculties of Science and AgriSciences. (This

position may from time to time require after hours system maintenance).

• Installering, daaglikse instandhouding en monitering van Linux-rekenaarstelsels en -bedieners by die Universiteit Stellenbosch, spesifiek by die Fakulteite Natuurwetenskappe en

AgriWetenskappe. (Hierdie pos kan van tyd tot tyd na-uurse stelselonderhoud verg).

Job Requirements/Pos Vereistes

• A National Senior Certificate.
• A degree, and three years' relevant Linux experience, OR

a relevant diploma or certificate and four years' relevant Linux experience, OR

five years' relevant Linux experience.

• Proven experience as a Linux DevOps engineer working with server software, such as GitLab and hardware, such as Dell.
• Sound knowledge of Linux as operating system.
• Proven relevant Linux DevOps engineer experience.
• Demonstrated ability to solve problems innovatively.
• Demonstrated analytical skills.
• Demonstrated high level of accuracy.
• Sound verbal and written communication skills.
• Demonstrated ability to work both in a team (within a Linux community of practice) as well as independently.
• Outstanding interpersonal relations.
• Proven experience in taking the lead in their field of expertise.
• Proven ability to transfer knowledge to colleagues.

Candidates may be subjected to aptitude, psychometric and proficiency tests.

(The incumbent will be required to accept and sign the SU-system administrator code of conduct).

• 'n Nasionale Senior Sertifikaat;
• 'n Graad, en drie jaar se toepaslike ervaring in Linux, OF

'n toepaslike diploma of -sertifikaat en vier jaar se toepaslike ervaring in Linux, OF

vyf jaar se toepaslike ervaring in Linux.

• Bewese ervaring as 'n Linux-DevOps ingenieur wat met bedienerprogrammatuur, soos GitLab, en hardeware, soos Dell, werk.
• Grondige kennis van Linux as bedryfstelsel.
• Bewese toepaslike ervaring as Linux-DevOps ingenieur.
• DBewese vermoë om probleme op `n innoverende wyse te kan oplos.
• Bewese analitiese vaardighede.
• 'n Bewese, hoë vlak van akkuraatheid.
• Goeie mondelinge en skriftelike kommunikasievaardighede.
• Bewese vermoë om in spanverband (binne 'n Linux-praktykgemeenskap), asook selfstandig te kan werk.
• Uitstekende interpersoonlike verhoudinge.
• Bewese ervaring daarvan om 'n leierskapsrol in hul kennisveld te vervul.
• Bewese vermoë om kennis aan kollegas te kan oordra.

Kandidate kan aan aanleg, psigometriese en vaardigheidstoetse onderwerp word.

(Dit sal van die posbekleër verwag word om hul met die US-gedragskode vir stelseladministrateurs te vereenselwig deur die ondertekening daarvan).

Recommendation/Aanbeveling

• Any other IT-related industry qualifications.
• Any IT related degree or diploma.
• Experience in creating and debugging Linux scripts.
