Job Advert Summary

BTT is currently recruiting for a Loco Driver to join the Richards Bay Operations Team

The main purpose of the job is to safely operate locomotives for incoming and outgoing rail tankers and work collaboratively with the shunting team to ensure the accurate positioning of rail tankers at designated stations for loading and offloading operations

Minimum Requirements

Matric with Mathematics and Science

2 years’ experience in plant operations in a chemical industry

2 years’ experience in rail operations

Locomotive driver license would be advantageous

Computer Skills

Ability to speak, read and write English fluently

Duties and Responsibilities

Ensure good housekeeping and cleanliness of loco’s

Safely operate loco’s according to rail safety regulations

Carry out regular loco checks

Report all deviations and faults on locomotives and rail lines

Weigh in and out of rail tankers over scale and recording of weights

Shunting of rail tankers from and to siding and within the plant

Placing and positioning of rail tankers in correct loading/offloading bays

Placing of dispatch cards on rail tankers

Liaise with Supervisor on all shunting operations

Avoid down time by ensuring that the turnaround times for all tank cars are met

Fire Fighting/Standby duties

Perform legal/SHE appointment duties
