WE’RE HIRING: LOCUM GENERAL PRACTITIONER WITH A FOCUS ON

PAEDIATRICS

Little Hearts Medicare is looking for a caring, reliable and clinically confident General

Practitioner to join our child-focused medical practice in Bryanston, Johannesburg, on a part-

time locum basis.

POSITION DETAILS

• Part-time locum position
• Two scheduled weekdays per week-Ad Hoc

Alternate Saturdays: 08:00–14:00

• Additional availability to cover doctors who are ill, on leave or when the practice is

particularly busy

• Working hours on scheduled weekdays: 08:00–17:00
• Hourly rate:

- Week days R450,

- Saturdays R600,

- Public Holidays R750

Commencement Date: 1 November 2026

The successful candidate should have some flexibility to assist with additional shifts when

needed. Additional cover will be arranged according to the doctor’s availability and the

operational requirements of the practice.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

• Current HPCSA registration and good standing
• At least one year of clinical experience in paediatrics
• Appropriate professional indemnity cover
• Strong clinical, communication and interpersonal skills
• A warm, compassionate and child-centred approach
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team
• Reliable availability for the agreed weekly and alternate Saturday shifts

ADVANTAGEOUS

• Diploma in Child Health
• Current Paediatric Advanced Life Support certification
• Experience working in a private paediatric or primary healthcare practice
• Experience with vaccinations, minor procedures and paediatric emergency stabilisation
• Familiarity with electronic medical-record systems

THE ROLE WILL INCLUDE

• Assessing and managing acute and chronic childhood illnesses
• Conducting newborn, infant, child and adolescent consultations
• Performing routine wellness, growth and developmental assessments
• Providing immunisation consultations and administering or supervising vaccinations
• Recognising and managing common paediatric emergencies, including stabilising patients

before referral when required

• Performing in-practice procedures such as nebulisation, nasal suctioning, blood collection,

wound care and other minor procedures

• Providing parents and caregivers with clear counselling, education and appropriate safety-

netting advice

• Maintaining accurate, timely and comprehensive clinical records
• Preparing prescriptions, referral letters and follow-up plans
• Communicating professionally with parents, caregivers and referring healthcare

professionals

• Collaborating with our nursing, administrative and allied healthcare teams
• Contributing to the warm, professional and family-centred environment at Little Hearts
