Job description
WE'RE HIRING: Logistics and Operations Planner — Join Africa Bunkering & Shipping!
ONLY CANDIDATES CURRENTLY RESIDING IN DURBAN WILL BE CONSIDERED.
Got a knack for keeping things running like clockwork? Do you take pride in staying one step ahead, and get genuine satisfaction from a well-maintained fleet and a well-run facility? Then we need to talk.
Africa Bunkering and Shipping, based in New Germany, Pinetown (KwaZulu-Natal), is on the hunt for a sharp, hands-on Logistics and Operations Planner to keep our vehicles road-ready, our facilities compliant, and our operations running safely and smoothly — day in, day out.
Africa Bunkering and Shipping supplies and coordinates marine fuel (bunkering) and related logistics services to the shipping industry.
Ours is a fast-paced, dynamic industry where operations don't always run on a 8-to-5 schedule — so a flexible approach and willingness to be available beyond standard hours when operational needs arise will be essential to succeeding in this role.
Location: New Germany, Pinetown, KwaZulu-Natal
Availability: Immediate start
Reporting to: General Manager
WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING:
Operations Planning — Plan, coordinate, and monitor daily operational activities, ensuring efficient scheduling of drivers, vehicles, equipment, and resources to support safe, compliant, and on-time service delivery. Track and report on operational KPIs (turnaround times, vehicle utilisation, downtime) to identify efficiency gains.
Logistics Planning — Keep our fleet roadworthy, licensed, compliant, and ready to roll, with solid preventative maintenance and accurate vehicle records. Manage relationships with service providers (tyres, parts, licensing agents) and negotiate/track maintenance costs, and maintain a vehicle replacement/lifecycle plan in coordination with the GM.
Facilities Management — Oversee warehouse operations, tanks, pumps, and equipment, ensuring everything is clean, compliant, and running at peak efficiency. Manage facility maintenance schedules (electrical, plumbing, structural) and coordinate with contractors/service providers for repairs and servicing. Monitor utilities usage (water, electricity, fuel) and flag inefficiencies or cost-saving opportunities. Ensure security systems, access control, and site perimeter are properly maintained and functioning. Maintain calibration and servicing records for tanks, pumps, and metering equipment per regulatory requirements, and manage on-site waste disposal in line with environmental regulations.
Health, Safety & Environmental Compliance — Champion SHEQ standards through regular inspections, hazard identification, and strict PPE enforcement.
Operational Support — Roll up your sleeves and support on-site operations (including pumping operations) when the team needs an extra hand, especially during high-demand periods.
Audit & Regulatory Compliance — Keep documentation audit-ready and ensure full compliance with South African fuel, hazardous materials, and waste regulations, including facility compliance documentation (occupational health certificates, tank inspection certificates, fire safety compliance) alongside fleet documentation.
Reporting & Coordination — Deliver clear, accurate reports to management, including monthly facilities and fleet condition reports, and liaise with contractors on quotations and works.
WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR:
✅ Excellent organisational skills and sharp attention to detail
✅ A proactive, self-starting nature — someone who spots what needs doing before being asked
✅ A hands-on approach, comfortable both behind a desk and out on-site
✅ Strong understanding of (or willingness to learn) SHEQ, transport, and fuel/hazmat compliance requirements in South Africa
✅ A team player who can liaise confidently with contractors, staff, and management
✅ Available to start immediately
If you're ready to take ownership of a role where no two days are the same — and where your attention to detail genuinely keeps operations safe and compliant — we want to hear from you.
