The Manager Planning & Engineering – Sub‑Saharan Africa (SSA) is responsible for leading Planning & Engineering activities across the region, including facility planning & management and operational field engineering (stations and gateways).
This role provides strategic direction, technical expertise, and project leadership to support operational performance, infrastructure development, and business growth. The position partners closely with internal and external stakeholders and supports network initiatives led by central or regional teams, ensuring alignment with SSA operational requirements.
Key Responsibilities
Planning & Engineering
- Lead SSA Planning & Engineering activities across:
- Stations, hubs, and gateway engineering
- Facility layout, capacity planning, and process optimization
- Sort systems, vehicles, and ground support equipment planning
- Provide engineering expertise to support operational improvements and business growth
- Contribute to contingency planning and operational readiness programs
- Support regional/global network design and implementation initiatives, ensuring local feasibility and execution alignment
Properties & Facilities Management
- Manage the SSA properties portfolio including:
- Lease management, acquisitions, and disposals
- Facility expansions, refurbishments, and space optimization
- Maintenance strategies and vendor coordination
- Ensure facilities comply with FedEx standards, regulatory, safety, and legal requirements
- Support capital planning and execution of facilities-related investments
Strategy & Planning
- Develop and implement SSA engineering and infrastructure strategies aligned with business priorities
- Lead business case development, feasibility analysis, and investment planning
- Identify opportunities to improve service, reduce cost, and enhance operational resilience
Project Management
- Oversee engineering and facilities projects from initiation through execution and delivery
- Ensure projects are delivered on time, within budget, and aligned with expected business outcomes
- Apply structured project governance and reporting
People Management
- Lead, coach, and develop a team of professionals and/or subject matter experts
- Drive performance management, capability development, and employee engagement
- Ensure alignment of team objectives with regional and corporate priorities
Stakeholder Engagement
- Build strong relationships with internal stakeholders including operations, finance, sales and regional leadership
- Interface with external parties such as vendors, landlords, and consultants
- Represent FedEx in discussions related to engineering and facilities where required
Financial & Compliance Management
- Manage departmental budgets and optimize resource allocation
- Ensure compliance with internal policies, regulatory requirements, and safety standards
- Identify risks and implement mitigation plans
Minimum Qualifications
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering, Supply Chain, Logistics, or related discipline Inclination toward industrial/ mechanical engineering and/ or IT
Experience
- Minimum 5–10 years of relevant experience in Planning & Engineering, operations engineering, or facilities management
- Experience managing projects and multi‑country or regional operations preferred
- Experience in logistics, aviation, or express transportation is an advantage
