Maintenance Assistant

Reports to: Maintenance Manager

Job Purpose

We are looking for a reliable and hands-on Maintenance Assistant to support the upkeep, repair, and maintenance of our facilities, recreational areas, and equipment. The successful candidate will ensure that all buildings, grounds, swimming pools, sports facilities, and infrastructure are maintained to a high standard, providing a safe, clean, and enjoyable environment for members, guests, and colleagues.

Key Responsibilities

General Maintenance

• Perform preventative and reactive maintenance on buildings, equipment, and facilities.
• Carry out basic plumbing, electrical, carpentry, painting, and repair work.
• Repair or replace damaged fixtures, fittings, doors, lighting, taps, locks, furniture, signage, and other facility components.
• Assist with installations, renovations, and improvement projects.
• Maintain roads, parking areas, drainage systems, gutters, roofs, and refuse areas.

Pool & Recreational Facilities

• Maintain swimming pools, fountains, and water features, including cleaning, water quality monitoring, and equipment checks.
• Ensure pools, water slides, and surrounding areas are safe, clean, and operational.
• Maintain sports facilities including tennis courts, padel courts, basketball areas, multi-purpose fields, boma, golf course ablutions, and children's play areas.
• Conduct regular inspections and report defects promptly.

Grounds & Facility Upkeep

• Keep public areas, fire escapes, maintenance workshops, and surrounding grounds clean and safe.
• Remove rubble and debris where required.
• Ensure umbrellas, flags, bollards, curtains, air conditioning, electric doors, and other facility assets are maintained.

Minimum Requirements

• Previous experience in general building or facilities maintenance.
• Practical knowledge of plumbing, basic electrical, carpentry, and general repairs will be an advantage.
• Ability to safely use hand tools, power tools, and maintenance equipment.
• Good communication skills in English (Afrikaans advantageous).
• Valid driver's licence advantageous.
• Ability to work independently and within a team.
• Willingness to work weekends, public holidays, shifts, and standby duties when required.

Physical Requirements

• Able to lift and move maintenance equipment and materials.
• Comfortable working outdoors in varying weather conditions.
• Able to work at heights, in confined spaces, and around water where required.
• Physically fit to perform manual labour, including standing, walking, climbing, kneeling, bending, and carrying equipment.
