Job Description Sovereign, a national supplier of quality chicken products to various markets with operations in five provinces, is seeking a thorough and committed individual for the position of Maintenance Electrician for its Broiler operations in the Agriculture division. The Maintenance Electrician is responsible for servicing and maintaining the infrastructure in the Broilers through corrective and preventative maintenance. This position reports to the Area Manager: Broilers and holds the TASK Grade T10. The ideal candidate must be in possession of a NQF level 4 certificate, preferably in an electrical field and a recognised Electrical trade test and have 3 years’ experience in maintenance related field. The incumbent should have a stocked toolbox, a valid driver’s license and reliable vehicle due to standby and overtime duties.

Responsibilities

• Maintain and fault-find electrical systems and poultry-house equipment. Ensure that all work conforms to the SANS 10142 standards and the Sovereign Maintenance standard operating procedures;
• Respond quickly to breakdowns to protect production and bird welfare.
• Complete electrical inspections, testing, safe isolation and maintenance records.
• Follow legal, safety, food-safety and biosecurity requirements and ensure standards support NOSA 5 star accreditation.
• Control electrical spares, tools and test equipment.
• Identify recurring faults and implement preventive maintenance improvements.
• Participate in standby and after-hours call-outs where required.

Qualifications

• Excellent root cause analysis and problem identification skills with an ability to take corrective action.
• Knowledge on the legal requirements and other relevant legislation pertaining to general maintenance work and electrical installations.
• Working knowledge in mechanical / other maintenance and general hand tool skills.(basic welding, cutting, grinding, carpentry and plumbing.
• Flexi-time, standby, public holidays, weekend duties as required operationally.
• Attentive to detail, with strong technical abilities.
• Cost control and budget adherence.
• Min code 08 driver’s license.
