MAINTENANCE MANAGER - PETROCHEMICAL INDUSTRY
Position: Maintenance Manager
Salary: Negotiable based on experience
Location: Cape Town / Project Sites
About the Role
PetroENG Management Services is looking for a competent, hands-on and experienced Maintenance Manager to oversee and coordinate maintenance activities within the petrochemical and general construction sectors.
The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring maintenance activities are completed safely, efficiently and according to the required quality standards. The ideal candidate must be organised, proactive and capable of managing multidisciplinary maintenance teams in a fast-paced operational environment.
Key Responsibilities
• Oversee daily maintenance activities, ensuring compliance with safety regulations, quality standards and Permit-to-Work procedures.
• Independently prepare and complete Risk Assessments, Method Statements, maintenance reports and other required HSE documentation.
• Manage and coordinate maintenance teams, including supervisors, artisans, technicians, subcontractors and site personnel.
• Plan, schedule and monitor preventative and corrective maintenance activities to minimise downtime and ensure operational efficiency.
• Prepare and submit accurate daily maintenance and progress reports, ensuring all documentation is complete and up to date.
• Interpret and work from engineering drawings, technical specifications, maintenance schedules, equipment manuals and related technical documentation.
• Coordinate with engineering, HSE and project management teams to resolve technical issues, breakdowns and operational constraints.
• Manage maintenance resources, including materials, spare parts, tools, equipment and manpower.
• Order, control and monitor maintenance materials, spare parts, tools and equipment to ensure availability and efficient cost management.
• Attend and conduct maintenance meetings with engineers, clients, suppliers, subcontractors and other project stakeholders.
• Monitor maintenance costs and ensure efficient use of resources within approved budgets.
• Demonstrate strong BOQ knowledge, including quantity verification, maintenance costing and cost tracking.
• Maintain accurate and up-to-date maintenance documentation, records and reports.
• Identify maintenance risks and implement appropriate corrective and preventative actions.
• Ensure all maintenance activities are completed in accordance with client requirements, company procedures, HSE standards and applicable legislation.
• Provide leadership and direction to maintenance teams and ensure effective communication across all levels.
Minimum Requirements
• Minimum 2 years' relevant experience in Maintenance Management, Construction Management or Site Management, including at least 2 years in a supervisory or management capacity.
• Proven experience managing multidisciplinary maintenance teams.
• Experience in a petrochemical, industrial, mechanical, construction or related environment.
• Valid Code 8 driver's licence.
• Strong understanding of maintenance processes, site coordination and operational requirements.
• Strong understanding of Permit-to-Work systems and HSE requirements.
• Ability to independently compile Risk Assessments, Method Statements and other required HSE documentation.
• Strong BOQ knowledge, including quantity verification, maintenance costing and cost tracking.
• Strong leadership, communication and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent organisational and time-management abilities.
• Ability to work independently, under pressure and meet strict deadlines.
• Strong computer literacy and proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel.
Advantageous
• Experience within the petrochemical, oil & gas or industrial sectors.
• Relevant technical, maintenance, mechanical, HSE or construction qualifications/certifications.
• Knowledge of preventative and corrective maintenance systems.
• Experience managing subcontractors and multidisciplinary maintenance teams.
• Experience with maintenance planning, scheduling and cost control.
