Job description

Purpose Of Role

Maintenance Planner is responsible for coordinating, implementing, and maintaining all operational activities related to the maintenance planning for all infrastructure and assets in the relevant section by applying a standard best practice approach to equipment maintenance through system inspections, condition monitoring, as well as system and infrastructure design for the workshop area to achieve optimum productivity.

Role Context

Operational Management

  • Implement maintenance planning operational and tactical strategies across the plant by delivering on set operational plans in line with standard operating procedures to optimise performance and ensure cost efficiency.
  • Keep abreast of changes in relevant guidelines and other legislation, to make recommendations where policies, processes and/or procedures require amendment.
  • Implement relevant policies, processes, Operational and maintenance procedures that are within the respective maintenance department and plant aimed at the enhancement of service delivery and overall productivity within the Department.
  • Implement maintenance processes and procedures for the relevant section to maintain an efficient and safe operation of mining equipment and infrastructure.
  • Execute and deliver on plans to minimise equipment downtime and ensure continued productivity by creating and implementing predictive, preventative and corrective maintenance standards, processes and procedures.
  • Prepare and document reports related to maintenance scheduling and activities by recording work orders, equipment performance data and maintenance schedule to keep an up-to-date maintenance schedule.
  • Maintain and align all maintenance activities and recoding of data on the relevant system master data tool (i.e. MOC, QC, BOM, etc.)
  • Perform cost analysis by comparing repairs versus replacement of parts to ensure an accurate costing, time and impact on production.
  • Provide support to service providers with regards to installation/repairs of operational equipment to ensure alignment to the Arxo Metals’ maintenance strategy and standards
  • Collaborate with suppliers, vendors and engineering professionals to source and procure parts, services and equipment and ensure cost-effectiveness and quality.
  • Monitor notification catalogue completion and investigate work order expectations in line with set quality standards.
  • Conduct Supervisory standby duties for the plant.

Resource Management

  • Provide input into required changes in resources (financial or non-financial) to enable the achievement of team and/or own objectives.
  • Determine resource needs of the team and request allocation of relevant resources in own area of work to achieve business outcomes.
  • Request and allocate required assets and/or resources for the fulfilment of work objectives to guarantee quality outputs.
  • Coordinate the use of assets and resources within the team and own area of responsibility, to ensure assets and resources are consistently and appropriately utilised and monitored.
  • Implement resource utilisation controls for staff with day-to-day direction and tasks aligned with Departmental procedures, to enable the usage of less resources more efficiently.
  • Identify formal engineering training and development needs and conduct regular practical training and coaching to ensure required skills are obtained and assessed continuously to improve performance and correct shortcomings.

Stakeholder Relations

  • Communicate with all relevant Departments on issues of the area of speciality. Liaise across the relevant Departments by engaging with the appropriate stakeholders to ensure all stakeholders remain abreast of Departmental objectives, any potential derailers are appropriately managed and duplication of work is avoided.
  • Communicate with internal and/or external stakeholders, where required, to achieve work objectives and to maintain relationships.
  • Liaise with other departments including production, engineering and procurement to coordinate maintenance activities, share information and address issues that impact mining operations to minimise disruption of production.

Compliance, Risk and Safety

  • Monitor the implementation and adherence to safety protocols, regulatory compliance and environmental standards to ensure a safe working environment in line with the Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA)
  • Maintain a risk register to keep record of potential risks and implement a work ethos across the section that is committed to safeguarding employee safety, health and wellbeing and take remedial actions where necessary to minimise incidents.
  • Conduct regular safety audits, risk assessments and influence compliance with all relevant regulations, mining laws, by-laws and safety standards to promote a strong safety culture and ensure risk escalation within the section
  • Oversee equipment handling by managing control measures to ensure equipment handed back to the operation is in a safe and operable condition.

People Management

  • Create and maintain a conducive work environment by appropriately applying Human Resources policies and procedures to ensure optimum performance is realised for the benefit of the Department and, by extension, the organisation.
  • Coordinate the team’s performance according to Arxo Metals’ leadership principles and values throughout the entire employee life cycle (performance management, reward etc) to ensure, inter alia, a high-performance culture.
  • Supervise plant personnel, monitor performance and provide regular feedback to address any performance issues.
  • Manage a high-performing team and conducive employee relations by identifying skills gaps, recommend development plans and ensuring staff are trained and equipped to perform their duties.

Qualifications

  • Grade12/NQF Level 4
  • NQF Level 4 Technical Maintenance Certificate (i.e. Asset Management)
  • S4/T4 Diploma
  • Red-Sealed Engineering Trade Certificate12/ NQF Level 4Grade 12/ NQF Level 4

Job-specific Experience

  • Minimum 2 - 3 years’ experience as maintenance planner assistant
  • Experience/Exposure on CMMS (MS Dynamics F&O, SAP, Pragma, Reporting tools: MS Power BI)
  • Supervisory experience will be advantageous
  • Valid driver's license
