Managing Director
Roodepoort / Centurion
The Managing Director will provide overall strategic, commercial, financial, and operational leadership across the business, with responsibility for driving sustainable growth, profitability, operational excellence, and organisational performance.
Key Responsibilities
1. Strategic Leadership
- Define and implement the company's overall business strategy and long-term growth objectives.
- Develop growth strategies covering sales, market expansion, customer development, and new business opportunities.
- Align manufacturing, operations, sales, supply chain, finance, engineering, and support functions around common business objectives.
- Drive business development, transformation, continuous improvement, and long-term competitiveness.
- Identify opportunities to improve market share, operational capability, profitability, and customer value.
2. Profit & Loss (P&L) Responsibility
- Take overall accountability for the financial performance of the business.
- Drive achievement of revenue, gross margin, EBIT/EBITDA, cash flow, and profitability targets.
- Develop and approve budgets, forecasts, business plans, and financial targets.
- Monitor financial performance and implement corrective action where required.
- Drive cost control, productivity improvements, working-capital optimisation, and margin improvement.
- Evaluate and approve major investments, capital expenditure, and strategic projects.
3. Sales, Commercial and Customer Management
- Lead commercial activities and business development initiatives to achieve sustainable revenue growth.
- Develop and maintain relationships with key customers and strategic accounts.
- Oversee sales forecasting, market analysis, pipeline development, and customer retention.
- Lead or support negotiations for major contracts and commercial agreements.
- Ensure customer requirements are understood and effectively translated into operational and production objectives.
- Monitor customer satisfaction and service delivery.
4. Manufacturing and Operational Excellence
- Provide executive leadership across manufacturing and operational activities.
- Ensure safe, efficient, reliable, and cost-effective production.
- Drive achievement of targets relating to quality, cost, delivery, productivity, and efficiency.
- Optimise production capacity, plant utilisation, labour resources, inventory, and operational processes.
- Drive continuous improvement, Lean, productivity, and operational excellence initiatives.
- Ensure manufacturing capacity and resources are aligned with customer demand and sales commitments.
- Monitor operational KPIs and implement corrective action where required.
5. Electrical, Engineering and Technical Operations
- Provide executive oversight of electrical, engineering, plant, machinery, and technical operations.
- Ensure electrical and engineering activities are conducted safely, efficiently, and in accordance with applicable standards and regulations.
- Oversee maintenance strategies to maximise plant availability, reliability, and equipment performance.
- Support capital investment decisions relating to plant, machinery, electrical infrastructure, automation, and production technology.
- Ensure effective preventative and planned maintenance programmes are implemented.
- Drive improvements in equipment reliability, downtime reduction, energy efficiency, and production capacity.
6. Supply Chain, Procurement and Quality
- Oversee procurement, logistics, inventory, warehousing, supplier management, and supply chain performance.
- Ensure continuity of supply and effective supplier performance.
- Drive competitive procurement, cost reduction, inventory optimisation, and improved delivery performance.
- Maintain strong relationships with strategic suppliers and service providers.
- Ensure products and services consistently meet customer quality requirements.
- Oversee quality management systems and continuous quality improvement initiatives.
7. People and Organisational Leadership
- Lead, develop, and manage the senior management team.
- Create a high-performance culture focused on accountability, teamwork, safety, and results.
- Provide leadership to an organisation of approximately 80 employees reporting into the Managing Director across the Centurion and Roodepoort operations.
- Ensure effective workforce planning, succession planning, talent development, and performance management.
- Develop management capability through coaching, mentoring, and structured development.
- Maintain effective employee engagement and constructive labour relations.
- Ensure clear communication of company strategy, objectives, expectations, and performance.
8. Governance, Compliance, Risk and SHEQ
- Ensure compliance with all relevant legal, regulatory, corporate, contractual, and ethical requirements.
- Maintain effective internal controls, policies, procedures, and governance processes.
- Identify and manage strategic, financial, operational, commercial, and supply-chain risks.
- Oversee Health, Safety, Environmental and Quality requirements.
- Promote a strong safety culture across both Centurion and Roodepoort operations.
- Ensure appropriate business continuity and risk-mitigation strategies are implemented.
9. Stakeholder Management
- Represent the organisation at senior level with customers, shareholders, suppliers, employees, unions, government authorities, regulators, and industry bodies.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with key internal and external stakeholders.
- Communicate business performance, strategy, risks, opportunities, and priorities effectively.
- Represent the company during major negotiations, strategic meetings, and commercial engagements.
10. Business Development and Growth
- Identify and pursue new markets, customers, products, services, and strategic partnerships.
- Develop initiatives to increase revenue, market share, profitability, and customer penetration.
- Evaluate potential acquisitions, investments, partnerships, and expansion opportunities.
- Ensure the business remains competitive and responsive to changing market conditions.
Minimum Requirements
- Must have a recognised Electrical Qualification.
- Must have significant senior management / executive-level experience within a Manufacturing and/or Mining environment.
- Proven experience managing manufacturing, production, engineering, maintenance, or mining operations.
- Strong understanding of industrial, electrical, engineering, plant, and production environments.
- Proven P&L and commercial management experience.
- Experience managing multiple operational sites would be highly advantageous.
- Demonstrated experience leading and developing large teams, with the ability to manage approximately 80 employees across the Centurion and Roodepoort operations.
- Strong experience in operational strategy, cost control, budgeting, forecasting, and business improvement.
- Proven ability to drive KPIs, productivity, quality, safety, and operational excellence.
- Strong commercial, negotiation, stakeholder-management, and business-development skills.
- Excellent leadership, decision-making, communication, and problem-solving abilities.
- Experience working in a complex, high-pressure industrial environment.
- Strong understanding of SHEQ, compliance, risk management, and corporate governance.
