At WSP, you can access our global scale, contribute to meaningful projects and connect with the brightest minds in your field to do the best work of your life. You can embrace your curiosity in a culture that celebrates new ideas, diverse perspectives and technical excellence. You can experience a world of opportunity and the chance to shape a career as unique as you.

A Little More About Your Role

WSP Africa is supporting a power generation client on a large-scale gas-to-power assignment and is looking for an experienced Market and Pricing Specialist (Liquefied Natural Gas) to provide independent commercial and market review across the LNG-to-burner value chain. This specialist role will help assess whether the proposed fuel supply approach is realistic, bankable where relevant, and aligned to operational requirements, offtake and tariff assumptions, and financial model inputs.

In this role, you will review LNG market fundamentals, sourcing options, pricing structures, benchmark validation, contracting strategy, shipping and terminal or regasification arrangements, and the commercial risk allocation required to support a robust gas-to-power project. You will work closely with multidisciplinary technical, legal, finance, project development and client teams to provide practical recommendations that support informed decision-making.

Responsibilities

  • Review LNG and gas market fundamentals, demand and supply assumptions, pricing basis and sensitivities used in the financial model.
  • Assess LNG sourcing, pricing structures, indexation mechanisms, cost-stack assumptions and benchmark references.
  • Review contracting strategy and risk allocation for SPA/GSA, shipping and terminal services agreements.
  • Evaluate key contractual terms, including volume flexibility, quality, force majeure, take-or-pay, make-up/carry rights, credit support and change in law provisions.
  • Assess shipping, port, logistics, terminal and regasification feasibility assumptions, including outage, curtailment and contingency arrangements.
  • Review nominations, imbalance, measurement and settlement principles across the LNG-to-burner value chain.
  • Evaluate counterparty credit, FX, regulatory, customs, tax and compliance considerations that may affect cost, schedule and bankability.
  • Review alignment between fuel pricing risk treatment and the power offtake or tariff structure, including pass-through, indexation and availability obligation assumptions.
  • Prepare commercial readiness memos, independent pricing and cost-stack benchmarking notes, contract risk allocation commentary and action lists for phase-gate decisions.

Health, safety, environment and quality

  • Role model SHEQ standards and behaviours consistent with WSP’s health, safety, environmental and quality vision and policies.
  • Contribute to the identification of SHEQ risks and support processes aimed at achieving Zero Harm.
  • Promote WSP’s values and ensure a safe working environment is maintained at all times.

What we will be looking for you to demonstrate

  • Relevant degree in Energy Economics, Finance, Commercial Law, Engineering, Economics, Business or a related discipline.
  • 15+ years’ experience in gas markets, LNG trading, commercial structuring or LNG procurement.
  • Experience within large-scale LNG, gas-to-power, energy infrastructure or independent power project environments.
  • Demonstrable experience in large-scale LNG sourcing, pricing, trading, shipping, terminal interface and regasification commercial arrangements.
  • Strong familiarity with LNG contracting approaches, including FOB/DES, SPA/GSA structures, take-or-pay, make-up/carry, force majeure, credit support and change in law provisions.
  • Experience reviewing LNG pricing benchmarks, indexation structures, cost-stack assumptions, sensitivities and commercial model inputs.
  • Understanding of lender expectations, bankability considerations and commercial risk allocation for energy infrastructure or power generation projects.
  • Knowledge of regulatory, customs, tax, FX, compliance and counterparty credit considerations affecting LNG supply and gas-to-power projects.

Key competencies and generic skills

  • Strong commercial judgement and ability to assess LNG market, pricing and contractual risk in a bankable project context.
  • Advanced analytical capability, with the ability to interrogate financial model assumptions, pricing sensitivities and cost-stack build-ups.
  • Excellent understanding of the LNG value chain from sourcing and shipping through to terminal, regasification and burner interface.
  • Ability to translate complex commercial, market and contractual issues into clear, practical recommendations for client decision-making.
  • Strong stakeholder engagement skills, including the ability to work with legal, finance, technical, project development and client teams.
  • High attention to detail, sound written communication skills and ability to prepare concise commercial review outputs for senior stakeholders.
