Marketing and Social Media Assistant

About the Role

We are looking for an organised, creative, and enthusiastic Marketing & Social Media Assistant to support the Marketing Manager across two growing businesses:

• Futurama – A retailer specialising in outdoor, optics, technology, security, and lifestyle products
• Ultranexus – An importer and distributor of leading international brands

This is a junior, hands-on position suited to someone who wants to develop their career in social media and marketing. The successful candidate will assist with content planning, social media administration, community management, internal training-platform updates, events, and general marketing activities.

The role is based in-office and will work closely in a team with the Marketing Manager, Graphic Designer, Videographer, sales teams, and other departments.

Key Responsibilities

Social Media Content Planning

• Assist the Marketing Manager with planning of monthly social media content calendars across multiple brands and platforms
• Research relevant content ideas, industry topics, trends, and competitor activity to inform the monthly social media plan
• Keep content schedules updated and follow up on outstanding content to keep within deadlines

Content Creation and Coordination

• Write and adapt captions, social media copy, and basic promotional content
• Prepare clear creative briefs for the graphic designer and videographer
• Collect product information, images, specifications, and supporting material for campaigns
• Check content for spelling, accuracy, correct pricing, and brand consistency before publication

Social Media Platform Support

• Assist with the day-to-day management of Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp channels or groups
• Schedule and publish approved content consistently. Monitor scheduled content to ensure that it publishes correctly
• Escalate technical problems, sensitive enquiries, or reputational concerns to the Marketing Manager

Community Management

• Monitor and respond to routine comments, messages, and customer enquiries
• Direct product, pricing, dealer, or technical enquiries to the appropriate team member
• Engage with followers in a helpful, professional, and brand-appropriate manner
• Monitor brand mentions and flag potentially sensitive comments or complaints
• Assist with managing relevant online communities and WhatsApp groups

Basic Reporting

• Gather basic weekly and monthly social media statistics
• Maintain reporting spreadsheets and capture performance figures accurately
• Identify and list the best-performing posts for review by the Marketing Manager
• Keep social media and campaign records organised and up to date

The Marketing Manager will remain responsible for interpreting analytics, developing performance strategies, and making optimisation decisions.

Internal Training Platform Support

• Assist with updating and maintaining the company’s internal training platform, including upload training videos, course material, product information, assessments, and supporting resources
• Check that course content is complete, correctly labelled, and functioning properly
• Follow up with relevant team members for outstanding training material
• Help keep existing product training information accurate and up to date

Event Planning and Execution

• Assist with planning and coordinating expos, trade shows, product launches, activations, and internal events, including - preparing event checklists, marketing material, signage, product displays, and promotional items
• Liaise with internal teams and suppliers regarding event requirements
• Support post-event follow-ups and reporting

General Marketing Support

• Work closely with the Marketing Manager and team on campaigns and product launches
• Assist with newsletters, website content, dealer communication, and promotional material
• Maintain organised digital folders, marketing assets, and content records
• Help source information and assets from suppliers and internal departments
• Provide administrative and coordination support to the marketing team
• Assist with other marketing-related tasks on an ad hoc basis

Minimum Requirements

• 2+ years experience in a marketing, social media, content, or administrative support role
• A relevant qualification in marketing, communications, digital media, or a related field is advantageous
• Familiarity with Facebook and Instagram
• Basic experience using Meta Business Suite or another social media scheduling platform
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office, particularly Excel, Word, and Outlook
• Strong organisational and administrative abilities
• Ability to manage several brands, tasks, and deadlines
• Willingness to learn new platforms, products, and marketing processes
• Reliable transport to work in Somerset West
• South African citizen with avalid ID.

• Experience using AI tools to assist with marketing and content creation
• Experience updating a learning management system or internal training platform
• Experience assisting at expos, activations, or promotional events
• Familiarity with email marketing or website content-management platforms

Ideal Candidate Snapshot

You do not need to be a fully experienced social media strategist or paid-media specialist. You should, however, be dependable, comfortable working across multiple brands, and capable of supporting the Marketing Manager in keeping content, training, events, and everyday marketing activities running smoothly.

Pay: R10 000,00 - R15 000,00 per month
