Materials Specialist – Fuels, Lubes & Tyres – Africa & Middle East (AME)

Position Description

The Barrick Africa & Middle East Team are seeking to recruit a Materials Specialist – Fuels, Lubes & Tyres - AME. This role reports to the Supply Operations Manager AME.

This role is responsible to manage the end-to-end supply, commercial and technical aspects of fuel, lubricants and tyres across all Barrick AME sites ensuring supply security, cost optimisation, regional standardisation, and alignment with maintenance and operational requirements.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Manage regional fuel supply contracts, pricing mechanisms and supplier performance across all AME sites.
  • Oversee fuel logistics transportation, storage, bulk handling and site consumption.
  • Implement fuel reconciliation and loss-control processes; work with mine operations to minimise fuel waste and theft.
  • Manage Stock levels and demand planning with the operations and demand and inventory specialist.
  • Conduct regular and consistent audits of fuel and lubricants to verify inventory accuracy and identify any discrepancies.
  • Own the regional fuel management systems (FMS) and drive automated dispensing, tank gauging and telemetry ensuring every issue of fuel and lubricant is captured against the correct equipment, operator and cost centre.
  • Oversee integration of the fuel management systems with SAP, ensuring fuel and lube receipts, issues, stock movements and consumption postings flow accurately and automatically into SAP MM/FI.
  • Design, produce and act on fuel and lubricant exception reports, investigating variances, abnormal consumption, unreconciled issues and suspected losses, and driving corrective action with site teams.
  • Monitor diesel price indices and advise on pricing-strategy options.
  • Develop and govern a standardised lubrication program across all AME sites, aligned to OEM specifications and Barrick maintenance standards.
  • Drive and manage all trials with a clear business case and milestone reporting with full documents and data support for outcomes of trials and recommend next course of action.
  • Manage lube supplier relationships, negotiate framework agreements and drive product standardisation across the region.
  • Partner with maintenance teams on oil analysis, drain intervals and lubrication-related reliability improvements.
  • Own the regional tyre strategy, supplier selection, framework agreements and cost-per-hour (CPH) targets.
  • Implement tyre management systems (TMS) across all sites, tracking hours, pressure management and disposal. Drive tyre cost reduction through retreading, rotation schedules and application matching, and ensure tyre safety compliance (TPMS, changeout standards, incident investigation).

Qualification Requirements

Degree or Diploma in Supply Chain, Engineering, or a related field.

Experience and Skills Requirements

  • 7+ years’ experience managing fuel, lubricants or tyre categories in a heavy mining or resources environment.
  • Technical understanding of mining equipment (haul trucks, LHDs, drills) and their fuel/lube/tyre requirements.
  • Experience with tyre and fuel management systems and OEM technical support.
  • Strong commercial skills, contract negotiation, supplier management, cost analysis.
  • Data analysis and reporting capability, with the ability to interpret consumption trends, variance reports, cost drivers, supplier performance and operational exceptions. Strong stakeholder management skills, with the ability to work across supply chain, maintenance, mining operations, finance, HSE and site leadership teams.
