Mathematics and Physical Science Trainer – Soshanguve, Pretoria

Maths Centre is currently recruiting for a Mathematics and Physical Science Trainer position based in Soshanguve, Pretoria, and we would appreciate your assistance in identifying suitable candidates through your recruitment network.

This is a project-based, limited-duration position, with the current Service Level Agreement (SLA) running until 30 June 2027, subject to possible renewal depending on the continuation of the project.

Key Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be responsible for supporting both teachers and learners within the project schools. Key responsibilities will include:

• Providing teachers with support in Mathematics and Science content, teaching methodology and assessment practices.
• Facilitating teacher development workshops, training sessions and professional learning activities.
• Conducting classroom-based support, mentoring and coaching of Mathematics and Science educators.
• Supporting learners through structured Mathematics intervention programmes.
• Facilitating Mathematics and Science lessons, and learner support programmes for Grades 10–12.
• Assisting teachers with lesson planning, assessment, curriculum coverage and effective teaching strategies.
• Supporting the implementation of project activities and ensuring alignment with the project objectives and implementation plans.
• Conducting school visits and working closely with project schools and educators.
• Supporting the monitoring and evaluation of learner and teacher interventions and providing relevant feedback and information for project reporting.
• Utilising digital learning tools and online platforms to support teacher and learner development.
• Building positive working relationships with educators, school management and other project stakeholders.
• Travelling regularly to project schools as required.

Minimum Requirements

The ideal candidate should meet the following requirements:

• Relevant degree/qualification in Education with a focus in Mathematics, Physical Science or STEAM.
• Experience teaching or training Mathematics at Grade 10–12 level.
• Experience in teacher development, teacher training, mentoring or facilitation will be highly advantageous.
• SACE registered.
• Valid South African driver's licence.
• Own reliable vehicle/transport.
• Willingness to live and work in or around Soshanguve, Pretoria.
• Willingness and ability to travel regularly to project schools.
• Computer literacy, particularly Microsoft Office, Excel and Microsoft Teams.
• Strong facilitation, presentation, mentoring and communication skills.
• Ability to work independently while also collaborating effectively with the Maths Centre team and project stakeholders.
• Strong organisational and time-management skills.
• Ability to maintain professional relationships with teachers, schools and other stakeholders.
• Must be a South African citizen.

Candidate Profile

We are particularly interested in candidates with substantial experience in one or more of the following areas:

• Mathematics and Science classroom teaching, particularly Grades 10–12.
• Teacher development and professional learning.
• Training and facilitation.
• Learner intervention programmes.
• Curriculum and assessment support.
• Digital and online learning.
• Mentoring and coaching of educators.

Candidates who have transitioned from classroom teaching into teacher development, training or educational project work would be particularly suitable for this position.
