Mechanic (Earthmoving Machines)

MacDonald’s Transport (Pty) Ltd is seeking an experienced and technically skilled Mechanic (Earthmoving Machines) to join our team in Durban .

We are looking for a hands-on professional with strong mechanical expertise and the ability to diagnose, maintain and repair earthmoving machinery in a demanding operational environment.

The successful candidate must be comfortable working independently, travelling to client sites and taking a proactive approach to equipment reliability and fault resolution.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform repairs and maintenance on earthmoving machines and equipment.
• Ensure quality control standards are maintained across machinery and equipment.
• Proactively identify machine and equipment defects before they result in operational failures.
• Diagnose and resolve mechanical, hydraulic and electrical faults.
• Maintain accurate information, administration and reporting relating to work performed.
• Maintain professional and productive working relationships with clients.
• Effectively manage workload and time to meet operational requirements.

Qualifications & Requirements

• Minimum 5 years' relevant experience .
• Sound knowledge of earthmoving machinery , including:
• Front-end loaders
• Excavators
• Reach stackers
• Strong knowledge of mechanical, hydraulic and electrical systems .
• Valid driver's licence.
• Knowledge of Health & Safety requirements.
• Strong problem-solving and analytical abilities.
• Able to work independently and without supervision.
• Good administrative and computer skills.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Accurate and detail-orientated.
• Driven, disciplined and energetic.
• Willing to travel and work at client sites.
• Willing to work overtime when operationally required.
• Ability to perform effectively under pressure.
