Mechanical Engineering Lecturer

Position Overview

We are seeking a dedicated and knowledgeable Mechanical Engineering Lecturer to join the PAX College academic team.

The successful candidate should have a strong Mechanical Engineering background, with particular strength in Engineering Drawing, Engineering Mathematics, and AutoCAD or computer-aided technical drawing.

This position is especially suited to a lecturer who is confident teaching drawing-based and mathematically focused engineering subjects and who can help students develop strong technical, analytical, and draughting skills across the NATED N1–N6 Engineering Studies programme.

The role involves delivering high-quality lectures, facilitating practical and applied learning, assessing student performance, supporting academic development, and contributing to the overall quality of the Mechanical Engineering programme.

Key Responsibilities

Lecture Delivery
Prepare and deliver comprehensive, well-structured lectures across relevant NATED N1–N6 Mechanical Engineering subjects, ensuring that content is accurate, engaging, and aligned with the prescribed curriculum. You will be required to deliver online learning from time to time. This will be in the form of delivering videos and PowerPoint presentations.

Engineering Drawing and Draughting
Provide strong instruction in Engineering Drawing and related technical drawing subjects. Candidates should be comfortable teaching drawing principles, interpretation of engineering drawings, technical layouts, projections, dimensions, tolerances, and other relevant draughting concepts.

AutoCAD and Computer-Aided Drawing
Use AutoCAD or similar computer-aided design and draughting software where appropriate to strengthen students' understanding of engineering drawing and modern technical design practices. The ability to demonstrate drawing techniques digitally and guide students through practical AutoCAD exercises will be highly advantageous.

Engineering Mathematics
Teach and support students in Engineering Mathematics and mathematically intensive Mechanical Engineering subjects. The lecturer should be confident explaining calculations, formulas, problem-solving methods, and the practical application of mathematics within engineering.

Practical and Applied Learning
Plan and facilitate practical sessions, demonstrations, workshops, and applied exercises that reinforce theoretical concepts and develop students' technical problem-solving skills.

Student Engagement
Create an interactive and supportive learning environment that encourages participation, questioning, critical thinking, and independent problem solving.

Assessment and Evaluation
Prepare, administer, mark, and moderate assignments, tests, practical activities, and examinations in accordance with institutional and programme requirements. Provide constructive and timely feedback to students.

Academic Support and Mentorship
Identify students who require additional academic assistance and provide appropriate intervention, tutoring, or guidance to improve their performance.

Curriculum and Academic Development
Work with the academic team to review teaching materials, lesson plans, assessments, and curriculum delivery to ensure alignment with NATED requirements and appropriate industry practices.

Industry and Professional Development
Remain informed about developments in Mechanical Engineering, engineering design, technical drawing, CAD technologies, and teaching methodologies, and incorporate relevant developments into classroom instruction where appropriate.

Academic Administration
Maintain accurate records relating to attendance, assessments, marks, student progress, lesson delivery, and other required academic documentation.

Quality Assurance
Uphold PAX College's academic standards, policies, and quality assurance requirements and participate in academic reviews, meetings, workshops, moderation processes, and institutional initiatives as required.

Qualifications and Requirements

• A relevant qualification in Mechanical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering Studies, Engineering, or a closely related field.
• Full SACE registration.
• Strong knowledge of Mechanical Engineering concepts, principles, and applications.
• Strong competency in Engineering Drawing and technical draughting is essential.
• Strong competency in Engineering Mathematics is essential.
• Proficiency in AutoCAD or similar CAD/draughting software is highly advantageous.
• Candidates with experience teaching Engineering Drawing, Engineering Mathematics, Engineering Science, Mechanotechnics, Mechanical Draughting, or related NATED Engineering subjects will be strongly considered.
• Previous teaching experience within the NATED N1–N6 Engineering Studies programme is highly advantageous.
• Ability to explain technical and mathematical concepts clearly to students with varying levels of academic ability.
• Excellent communication, presentation, and classroom-management skills.
• Proficiency in using digital educational tools and technology to support teaching and learning.
• Strong organisational and administrative skills.
• High attention to detail, particularly when working with engineering drawings, calculations, assessments, and academic records.
• A genuine commitment to student development and academic achievement.
• Patience, adaptability, professionalism, and the ability to create a disciplined yet supportive learning environment.
• Require a working laptop with Microsoft and your own at home internet connection for whenever we shift to online learning.

Preferred Candidate Profile

Preference will be given to candidates who demonstrate a strong combination of:

• Mechanical Engineering knowledge
• Engineering Drawing and draughting expertise
• Engineering Mathematics capability
• AutoCAD proficiency
• NATED N1–N6 teaching experience
• The ability to teach both theoretical and applied engineering concepts

Candidates may be required to complete a teaching demonstration and/or technical competency assessment in Engineering Drawing, Mathematics, or AutoCAD as part of the selection process.
