Mechanical Fitter

Freedom Stationery is seeking a qualified, experienced, and results-driven Mechanical Fitter to join our Maintenance team at our Cornubia Factory. The successful candidate will be responsible for the installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, repair, and overhaul of production machinery and mechanical equipment, ensuring maximum plant reliability, operational efficiency, and minimal production downtime.This role is integral to sustaining production performance through robust preventative maintenance practices and active participation in continuous improvement initiatives.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Mechanical Maintenance

• Perform planned preventative maintenance on all production equipment in accordance with scheduled programmes.
• Diagnose mechanical faults and execute repairs efficiently and effectively.
• Install, assemble, dismantle, and commission mechanical equipment and systems.
• Replace worn or damaged mechanical components to maintain equipment integrity.
• Conduct overhauls and rebuilds as operationally required. 2. Breakdown Response
• Respond promptly and effectively to unplanned machine breakdowns to minimise production interruption.
• Conduct thorough root cause analysis and implement sustainable corrective actions.
• Collaborate closely with production teams to safely and efficiently restore operations. 3. Preventative Maintenance
• Execute maintenance schedules in line with planned maintenance programmes and OEM recommendations.
• Conduct regular machinery inspections to identify and address potential failure points proactively.
• Recommend and implement improvements to enhance equipment reliability and extend operational lifespan. 4. Safety, Health & Compliance
• Ensure all maintenance activities comply fully with Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) legislation and company standards.
• Adhere strictly to Lock-Out/Tag-Out (LOTO) procedures at all times.
• Maintain a clean, safe, and orderly working environment.
• Utilise tools and equipment safely, responsibly, and in accordance with prescribed procedures. 5. Documentation & Reporting
• Complete maintenance reports, job cards, and equipment history records accurately and timeously.
• Document breakdown root causes, repairs performed, and spare parts consumed.
• Escalate recurring equipment issues and trends to management for strategic intervention. 6. Continuous Improvement
• Actively participate in continuous improvement initiatives to drive operational excellence.
• Assist with machinery modifications, equipment upgrades, and capacity expansion projects.
• Support the installation and commissioning of new machinery and systems. 7. Teamwork & Collaboration
• Work collaboratively with Electricians, Maintenance personnel, Production Supervisors, and Operators.
• Provide technical guidance and support to team members as required.
• Participate in standby duties, shift work, and overtime as operationally required.

Qualifications

• Qualified Mechanical Fitter — Trade Test Certificate (essential).
• N3 Mechanical Engineering qualification or equivalent (advantageous). Experience
• Minimum 3–5 years’ experience in a manufacturing or industrial maintenance environment.
• Proven experience working on production machinery and mechanical equipment.
• Demonstrated experience in both preventative and breakdown maintenance. Knowledge & Technical Skills
• Strong mechanical fault-finding and diagnostic capabilities.
• Proficiency in reading and interpreting engineering drawings, schematics, and technical manuals.
• Sound knowledge of bearings, gearboxes, conveyors, pumps, pneumatic systems, and hydraulic systems.
• Experience with precision measuring instruments.
• Competent planning and organizational skills.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving ability.
• Computer literacy for maintenance reporting purposes (advantageous).
